Richard Jewell never got his reputation back, as you note. And he died young.

The man who wrongfully identified Jewell to the press was Louis Freeh. After being forced out as head of the FBI in disgrace (the whole Robert Hansen espionage bit was too much, apparently, after Ruby Ridge, TWA 800, Waco, Chinese political contributions, 'where did Vince Foster commit suicide', Wen Ho Lee, Khobar Towers), Mr. Freeh is doing quite well in the private sector.

He's heading up Penn State's internal investigation of its Sandusky pedophilia coverup. His firm is heading up the New Orleans Saints internal investigation of the owners' box 'wire-tapping' scandal.

Good gigs for a guy whose reputation seems to suggest he like to begin with a conclusion and then have his subordinates write the report to support it.
