The article doesn't address one of the main problems...Forced busing from K-12. Put your kid on a bus and have them a hour away at another school to even up the colors....If the kid misses the bus to come home, then what. 1/2 the time parents didn't even know how to get to the schools....middle class blacks and whites moved out as fast as they could....Black parents didn't like it any more than white parents....shhhhh, don't tell anyone that placed a part...only left the poor and non taxpayers in the city...I know, I lived there.....

In fact during the early 60's and late 50's homes in detroit were expensive when compared to the new suburban subdivisions that went up. Bussing only went on in the city and your kids could walk to school....

You're right. Forced busing was a factor in the decline of all the big northern cities.
