George W. Bush is the most unpopular living ex-President: poll

George W. Bush has stepped out of the public eye since leaving office, but absence hasn't made the nation’s heart grow fonder.

The 43rd President of the United States is the most unpopular living former president, a CNN/ORC International poll has found, as only 43% of people surveyed said they had a favorable opinion of him and 54% viewed him unfavorably.

The negative rating puts Bush far behind his fellow living ex-Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Dubya’s father, George H.W. Bush.

Clinton nabbed a 66% favorable rating, Carter scored a 54% rating, and 59% of those polled said they had a positive view of Bush Sr.

Why should I give a damn what you think about GW Bush? ....Is it imperative that Bush haters post this crap ?

What exactly do you gain from it?

Exactly, the Bush bashing is looking pretty stupid after 3 1/2 years.

This poll had nothing to do with which president had the best policies.

The reason W is the most unpopular is because he still refuses to defend himself or his record. Obama, Pelosi and the Dems know this, so they can use him as a punching bag for whatever suits their purpose. It drives me crazy, but Bush refuses to engage in the debate.

At least he stays away from the camera, I respect him for that.

Me too. There is a lot to respect about W on a human level. And I trusted Bush's sentiments more than I do his successor. Sadly, W's judgments were too often very wrong. He played right into Osama's hands with his Iraq decision.

The Democrats made attacking the next Republican President after the impeachment of Clinton a top priority in order to show the American voters the consequences of attacking Democrats. RINOs seeking bipartisan cooperation let Bush down during his first term and since Jan 2007 Pelosi and Reid and the Democrats controlled the budget / spending via “continuing resolutions”......till today. Add the complete compliance by the media in misreporting Bush and you have the formula for swaying a misinformed public, ergo, Barack Obama.
I did not agree with some of Bush’s domestic policies but I consider him one of our great presidents, certainly better than Clinton, Nixon, Johnson or Kennedy.

I guess it would be easier simply to count the good Presidents, you might get 10.

I blame the dems for most of that, particularly the economics. Red line legislation, Fannie Mae - bad loans forced, off loading risk necessary to derivatives, yada, yada.

Obama was a fluke, a perfect storm.

Bush did well in most areas, a few bad ones. Certainly better than Carter and HW and Clinton - remember China?

Bush got the blame for economy and a war-weary populace.

IMHO, of course.

Oh yes, he’s also the reason Barak O. is president - people were reacting to Bush’s recession and his disastrous presidency.

I don't think that was all of it. There were tons of Conservator-than-thou types who voted for Obama to teach the Republicans a lesson. We can think them and the Perotistas for Democrat presidents. (And some of the latter still continue to insist they are not to blame.)

I would turn my attack to the 5th estate. After Reagan we have been in a liberal free fall. I thank my lucky stars that he was my CIC. The press is more than capable of getting anyone elected.

“When asked in the survey whether they are better or worse off than they were four years ago, Americans are split, 44% to 43%. But when asked whether they are better or worse off than they were four years ago “when Bush was president,” a small gap opens - 47% say they are better off compared to 41% who say they are worse off.”

What is interesting is that the people admit they were better off 4 years ago but when they add President Bush's name to the polling question they somehow change their minds. Sounds like they polled people who bought into all the Bush bashing from the MSM and the democrats you know the same people who say that Obama can't control the economy or gas prices yet Bush was the root of all the countries ills and is responsible for everything.

I was better off 4 years ago and I wish they would have polled me. Bush was not perfect by any measure but he is 100% better than the piece of crap we have in office now in my opinion.

RE :”He played right into Osama’s hands with his Iraq decision

Yes, I agree 100%

I did not fully understand that until late 2006. GWB was forced to spend his whole second term trying to clean up that mess while Obama and Pelosi pounced and took over everything.(except he found time for his failed amnesty push in 2007.)

Yet the Republican Koolaid was so strong that many here were still repeating the Republican talking points in 2009 and early 2010, 2011 not very much.

Even today when I point out how a POTUS (even an R one) cannot leave a complete disaster behind and still be a success I still get those worn out lame excuses, and the same folks laugh at Obama's lame excuses.
