That the president of the United States can make such a joke at an official event bespeakes the degree to which we have fallen. We’re done for. Truly.

The look of horror on his face a split second after everyone starts laughing belies your comment. It looks to me like he was in fact completely surprised at what he said and how his audience received it.
I watched the video and it is 100% clear that he thought it was a funny joke about how his wife was cheating in push-ups.
When the audience laughs a bit he is pleased that his joke was funny, but when they start hooting and hollering because of where THEIR minds are, he looks confused. Then he stammers because he’s trying to read his teleprompter but his mind is trying to figure out what just happened.

I could easily see myself making exactly the same mistake.
The people who should be ashamed of themselves are the audience. And Rush limbaugh. And Drudge. And CNN. And the rest of the media who think this kind of thing is fair or worthy of coverage.
I used to have a friend........she was from a very old wealthy family, real top drawer, private girls school, lots of charity events, and very proper,well respected. Wouldn’t say it if she had a mouthful. However when she was with our circle of friends, she had no problem with using every four letter word she could think of, drinking, flirting. Many of us were offended, not because of her actions but because she must have thought we didn’t quite deserve the respect she gave to others.. Does anyone in Obamas gay/lesbian audience think he would have made the same remark to the AARP, DAR, GS moms, or a state event? This kind of action speaks volumes about his feeling for the gay community.
Not only has that arrogant lazy, lying pos made the presidency a laughing joke. He has made the entire country into a laughing joke around the world.<p<November 6 can not come soon enough

I agree entirely. This absurd claim by Banfield is a manifest lie:
“ Also tried to stop the crowd with his hands. Kept doing this (gestures).”
If you watch the tape, he makes this gesture exactly once and it’s after a very long pause—well AFTER the lie in which in said “That’s what I heard.” A much more straightforward view of his “gesture” was that he got off his script and was thinking of something else to say (the “that’s what I heard” line looked like an ad lib to me). It reminded me of that campaign speech where he got totally bollixed up and kept umming and uhhhing and saying practically nonsensical lines, then finally laughed and used the same gesture and told the crowd that he couldn’t hear himself think.
It is amazing how the defense goes into full-throated defense mode when it comes to Obama’s slip of the tongue. It must suck for Obama to have to swallow so much of this. Obama has a job to do. Obama blew the joke. Why is that so hard for some to take?
Were it GW, we’d have known immediately that the comment was inadvertent.
I think it says a lot about Obama that people would think he’d deliberately make a low-class, crude comment about his wife for laughs.
And I thought “I way lying to my diary” was the worst excuse I ever heard. =/

to think that Dan Quail(sp?) to this day is the brunt of jokes when you've got the likes of Biden and bamey running around....
bamey couldn't be clever or slick all by himself.
so his little comments really are just one of stupidity...a bamey trait....
If that is true, Obama looks genuinely shocked they they were interpreting him this way.
But I must say, what does he expect with the company he keeps? This crowd is raunchy and many of them are involved in writing/acting/promoting raunch sex jokes fulltime as activists and entertainers on.
Law down with dogs...well everyone knows what you get.
