As part of NBC's wall-to-wall Today show coverage of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II celebrating her Diamond Jubilee on Tuesday, chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell listed ways in which the United States has supposedly slighted the monarch over the years: "...she's put up with a lot from her former subjects. The indignity of going to where the revolution started, to celebrate the bicentennial of our independence from the monarchy."
Mitchell brought in BBC's Katy Kay to lecture the former colonies: "It's always stroke me as slightly ironic that you basically kicked us out just over a couple centuries ago in order to get rid of dynastic monarchy, but you probably have just as much affection for the Queen as the people of Great Britain do."
She went to a Bicentennial dinner with the Fords and gave a nice speech for an event that took place 200 years ago.
What is this loon smoking?
As others have already pointed out, that would be one very old queen.
Writer can't write or think..
His experiences in the navy seem to have been little different from those of other midshipmen (though a tutor accompanied him on board ship) doing his share of the cooking[8] and getting arrested with his shipmates after a drunken brawl on Gibraltar (he was hastily released when his identity became known).[9]
He served in New York during the American War of Independence. While the prince was in America, George Washington approved a plot to kidnap him, writing "The spirit of enterprise so conspicuous in your plan for surprising in their quarters and bringing off the Prince William Henry and Admiral Digby merits applause; and you have my authority to make the attempt in any manner, and at such a time, as your judgment may direct. I am fully persuaded, that it is unnecessary to caution you against offering insult or indignity to the persons of the Prince or Admiral..."[10][11]
The plot did not come to fruition; the British heard of it and assigned guards to the prince, who had up till then walked around New York unescorted.[12]
Andrea has no class. The Queen does whether she is Queen or not and the Queen is no second class citizen like Andrea. She is no second class citizen like Andrea because she doesn’t act like one despite her royal heritage.
People like Mitchell don't like those who in some manner pose a challenge to the virtual country club to which they belong. They have made themselves important by believing that: 1) you have to be smart to be in government, 2) where you went to college defines you as a leader and designates you as part of the elite intelligentsia, 3) somewhat like knowing the secret handshake that gets you into a child's treehouse, knowing and being able to regurgitate certain boorish credos of the left makes you a member of a special and important group of people.
If only they knew how laughably pathetic they are.
and if there were no French, we’d be Brits!!
and if there were no French, we’d be Brits!!
Reminds me of a line from the movie “A Fish Called Wanda” where Kevin Cline says to a very snooty British woman that if it weren’t for the United States, “England would be the smallest province of the Soviet Union.”
During the Bicentennial she toured the USS Constitution. A ship that had repeatedly humiliated the Royal Navy during the War of 1812. Upon noticing that one of the ship’s 24 pounder bore the coat of arms of George III, she apparently quipped to Phillip that when they got home she needed to have a word with the Minister of Defence over “foreign arms sales”.
Andrea Mitchell is projecting.
A fella just can’t find shoes like those anymore.
The Queen is a classy lady who “gets it”. As a young lady, she became a truck mechanic and driver during WWII as an example for the people of England, and drove a delivery to Buckingham Palace from her location in the countryside as her final exam. This quite surprised her mother and her advisers, who were debating whether the young princess would be allowed to do her final exam drive into London almost as she arrived.
As shown from your anecdote, she not only “gets it”, she’s quite witty.
Andrea Mitchell clearly doesn’t get it at all.
I had no idea Queen Elizabeth was 250 years old.
William IV was a son of George III, becoming king after his brother George IV. He was the uncle of Queen Victoria and thus not a direct ancestor of Queen Elizabeth II.
Andrea Mitchell can pound sand.
Pretty sure LIZ loves America.....canSA’t y the samething about that pock-marked Mrs/ Greedspan.
WOW!!! A lady with CLASS!!!! Andrea doesn’t have ANY CLASS!! Well, maybe LOW!
Somebody called Andrea a goblin....that's PERFECT.
