Same here. I'm reading Elizabeth the Queen by Sally Bedell Smith, and it strives to be impartial. Elizabeth is revealed as a very kind woman, a devout Christian with conservative views. She also has a big loud laugh and can stalk a deer or change a tire with the best of them!
“Philip and Elizabeth,” by Gyles Brandreth, is the book I read most recently about the Queen. We also have “Windsor Castle: A Royal Year” on DVD. It’s a fairly recent BBC production about Elizabeth and Philip and all the life going on around them.
I think Elizabeth and Philip are good people, patriotic people, interesting people. Philip’s getting a bit batty in his extremely old age, but probably we all will, if we live long enough.
I like Elizabeth for her staunch patriotism, and her devotion to her horse- and dog-breeding. It seems like Prince William and Catherine will live up to her example. They’re really showing a sense of duty to the family and the nation.
