Monday... A special concert organised by the BBC and singer Gary Barlow will be held at Buckingham Palace. It will be attended by the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family in the surroundings of the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace. Guests, who were granted tickets by ballot, will also be invited to attend a Jubilee picnic in the Buckingham Palace Gardens. The concert will begin at 19:30BST.

Headline acts include classic hits and one-off collaborations from artists including Shirley Bassey, Alfie Boe, Jools Holland, Jessie J, JLS, Elton John, Tom Jones, Lang Lang, Annie Lennox, Madness, Paul McCartney, Cliff Richard and Ed Sheeran.

No doubt streamed live as the River Thames Pageant was today.

Royalty sucks, just like any form of elitism.

It's why we have a Republic.

Congratulations to the queen and good luck on hitting her platinum jubilee in 2012. Every day of her good health is one less day in the reign of her son.

Pity the rain spoiled some of the river pageant today....no flypast.

The Queen was amazing......86 years old and she stood for more than two hours in the cold and rain.

Bet she was glad to get back home and have a cup of tea - or something stronger.

Congratulations, your Majesty!

We may be called a Republic, but we’re organized like an 18th century Monarchy, with the elected POTUS playing the role of the Supreme Monarch, and being regarded as such by the populace and the media. Read the article posted alongside about Obama’s failures, written as if those failures were his alone, and by golly, they are, because our Republican (of the Republic, that is) Monarch doesn’t have to listen to anyone, and this one certainly doesn’t.
