I got to watch some B-58s do “touch and goes” while stationed at Whiteman AFB in the late 60s. They had a huge runway with no traffic as missile base. I thought that steam operated base would be the first to be shut down but now modernized for the B-2.
There were 150 Minuteman II ICBMs at Whiteman. Most of the silos have been imploded but I think a few are still there.
