Exactly how should the possible hostage situation been handled instead of what was done. What procedures and steps should have been taken to immediately solve the situation as opposed to what they did?

What should the exact law enforcement/police process have been in that situation?

Let’s start with what they should not have done. They should not have engaged in mass violations of the 4th Amendment for everyone in the vicinity.

ummm, easy answer, dont handcuff innocent people, they could have asked the adults to sit on the curb while one officer searched and another watched the adults. Really no need to handcuff.

Fourth Amendment – [Protection from unreasonable search and seizure.] The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Fifth Amendment – [Due process, double jeopardy, self-incrimination, eminent domain.] No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Yeah - that pesky Constitution is so inconvenient, and just gets in the way of ‘Effective Law Enforcement’...

Right???

I think they did what was correct. They prevented a kidnapping and possible homicide. The circumstances required them to take such action.

Incarcerating people for abuse of themselves is another story. If the meth heads want to ingest poison why stop them? Pile it as high as an elephants eye and watch em drop like flies! Problem solved and no dogs killed.

Yep thats what I obviously meant: looting. That’s me, a murdering privateer.

It wasn’t that I referencing the fact that if the ‘worst’ happens the things that will be worth more than gold will be: food, clean water, ammunition.

Who cares about gold when your family is starving or dying from dysentery because theres no clean water?

Who cares about gold if you have no guns or ammunition to protect it or maybe your family?

Nope, that’s me, I’m just waiting for the end times so I can go about serial killing everybody.....yep that would be me.

Beck is an a$$hat because for every minuscule instance that he utters something decent or valid he wildly invalidates it by running off at the mouth with blithering stupidity. Post Reply | Private Reply | To 7 | View Replies

I prefer to invest in lead, as in ammo. Then I can take your gold if I need it.

Glad to see the boot lickers are out. Hopefully you'll volunteer to be first on the rail car......the rest of us have guns and will resist tyranny.

You know where US personnel conduct mass detentions, aka block parties? Iraq and Afghanistan.....those would be war zones. I don't think our local tyrants are quite ready for this to become a war zone, so they damn well better stop acting like it.

How? Roadblocks are fine but the cops MUST state their case. A temporary hold on an area is fine but, again, the cops MUST state their case. But handcuffs/detention is an arrest and the cops had better be able to defend that loudly and proudly and clearly.

I once put a butthead on the ground, held him there with my bare hands, until a cop came and locked him up. At the guys trial his lawyer tried to claim the guy hadn’t really been “arrested”. The judge said “ —what’s your point? —on the ground, hands locked up, couldn’t get up——in this court that’s arrested. “

First actually determine if it really is a hostage situation instead of running around dragging people out of their vehicles at a road block on a whim & handcuffing them & threatening them with lethal force just for shits, grins & giggles.

Who said the suspect took hostages?

In fact, it turns out there were no hostages.

Where did they locate the person of interest?

According the the article, it never said this person/suspect was in one of the vehicles during this mass detainment and search of innocents.

Was this more more police hysteria based unsubstantiated bad information? If they were so concerned with hostages, why were single occupants of vehicles being searched and held?

not imprison people that have done no crime, not even charged, let alone convicted of one....

there is no excuse...this was a totalitarian act of war...

I would love to hear what “you” think they should have done...

And I guarantee that you’d be singing a different tune if you were one of the “citizens” detained and handcuffed (for officer safety of course) for no other reason than you know YOU didn’t do anything wrong...

And all kidding aaside, I know you didn’t do anything wrong...

Sometimes commonsense is thrown out the door when emotion drives a criminal situation like this out of control...

Just remember a refusal (or consent) to search is NOT a means to determine probably cause for any detainment or arrest...

You may end up taking a ride, and of course you always have nothing to hide, but you damn well have everything to protect!!!
