Welcome Back LucyT :)
Rape of Liberty ping
First actually determine if it really is a hostage situation instead of running around dragging people out of their vehicles at a road block on a whim & handcuffing them & threatening them with lethal force just for shits, grins & giggles.
You have hit the key point as have several others...Too many in “law enforcement” have adopted the Them vs. Us mentality...If you ain’t “cop” you’re a suspect, a perp, or about to be...You’re little people...
With a description of the suspect available, a simple roadblock and observation of occupants, along with a “Good day Sir/Ma’am, sorry for the inconvenience; we’re looking for a bank robber...Move along, and have a nice day!” would have earned these officers points with citizens, and helped their image as protectors...
Instead Aurora PD officers are seen by these citizens and TV viewers in the Denver Metro area as jack-booted thugs; an opposing occupation force unnecessarily and menacingly pointing weapons at innocent citizens going about their lawful business...
The video link attached shows bewildered citizens sitting handcuffed on the curb for an unknown period of time, and crying kids being hurried to the roadside by one cop...Wonder why they’re crying, after being removed from their car with their Dad at gunpoint...6 and 8 year old kids don’t fit the usual bank robber profile IMHO...
And this is not how “Sheepdogs” are supposed to behave...Extremely unprofessional, thuggish, and more than a bit cowardly on the part of LEOs...Clearly not their finest hour...
But maybe seeing this kind of thing will wake up some of the sleeping “flock”...We better get busy correcting this kind of thing or get used to seeing it happen...
These “officers” didn’t wake up one morning and say to themselves “If I stop someone today, I’m gonna menace them with my weapon...” It’s part of the new culture of protect yourself, assume no risk in performance of duties, take no chances that all stems from the Them vs Us doctrine of policing; and it’s US who are the enemy...This is top-down, folks...
Take a look at the video here, before it is taken down:

1. The words 'PENSION REFORM' make me feel a) happy or b) angry
2. When I think 'MASSIVE LAYOFFS IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR', I feel a) happy; or b) angry.
3. When I hear the word 'CITIZEN', a) I think 'friend'; or b) I reach for my revolver.
The video portion has already been removed.
Is it anywhere on utube yet?
See post 49.
Sad.
Am I outraged by the video by itself? Certainly - but I don't know enough about the law of law enforcement to speculate on whether what the police did was lawful.
Notice I didn't say whether it was right, or appears Constitutional. I said 'lawful,' as in 'complying with the existing body of law." I frequently disagree with the existing body of law.
“Brother, you need to step back, take some deep breaths, and do some serious self-examination. If you feel that mass-handcuffing of bystanders is now just another useful LE tool, then you have crossed a dangerous red line into supporting tyrannical police-state tactics. “
As far as I can tell from his post, he said no such thing and even endorsed oversight and critical monitoring.
On FR, there are plently of examples of absolute hate for ALL law enforcement officers. Post 49. . .short walk from spouting on the net and taking drastic action if pulled over for a reason the poster doesn’t agree with. . .like speeding or running a red light, or even driving drunk.
In the short term the police pulled fascist tactics in broad daylight with armor and rifles while stunned citizens complied and watched and filmed with cameras.
In the long run this will go viral as we’ve crossed another line in the sand and this dept is going to face lawsuits and hearings, not to mention informing more citizens to prepare for such un-Constitutional infringements.
Another question for law enforcement. Locally we had a hostage situation in a downtown area in an office building. Several of the SWAT team operators had their trusty AR rifles with fancy Eotech sites which cost a bundle. Just like this situation. Why are rifles being used in urban settings, firing the 5.56mm which can over-penetrate cars, walls just like many rifles? What happened to the trusty submachine gun like the H&K MP-5 favorite or shotguns for these situations? Unless all the ammo is frangible rounds you are putting innocent bystanders and public at risk.
Thanks, Bikkuri. I’m still offline, just checking in, and outraged by the information on this thread.
Essentially, that IS what he did.
But as someone else pointed out, this could very well be a troll looking to stir the pot.IIRC, I've seen him before and this seems to be his MO.
Hey, Copper, Did everyone of the adults, male female, black, white, yellow etc ALL fit the description of the alleged perp(s)?
Didn’t think so, hero. (the answer your looking ofr lies in teh above statemnet, can you find it?)
Maybe they just had a lot of flexicuffs that were about expire and, what the hay, thought “let’s use ‘em up rather than toss ‘em?”
Thanks for the pings. I watched this three times and each time I got madder. What would have happened if one of the civilians *looked like* they made the wrong move? My, God they had guns pointed at them. And those poor kids. I don’t know what else to say. My thoughts are forming faster than I can type. This could’ve turned into something very tragic in a split second.
It's already started, just look at the *significant* drop of people defending the police on threads like this (police misconduct).
This is, I think, actually a good thing. The sooner the general populous gets it through their heads that it really is "us vs. them", the sooner the next step comes: realizing the dangers of this standing army.
I now fear the police more than I fear the criminal.
