Ummm, lack of secret service protection for Lincoln might not be the best example...:o)
I wasn’t using President Lincoln’s “lack” of Secret Service protection as an example, as the Secret Service bill wasn’t even signed into law until right after his death and they didn’t get into executive protection until 1902, 37 years later. I was trying to show that even during our huge civil war, somehow the government was run on a shoestring, versus mere aides now having bodyguards.
