TALLAHASSEE, Fla Federal authorities are demanding that Florida halt its push to remove ineligible voters from the voter rolls.
In a move that comes just months before the state could play a pivotal role in the 2012 presidential election, the U.S. Department of Justice contends that the state is violating federal law in its effort to identify and remove ineligible voters.
The state's effort has already come under fire from local election supervisors who belong to both political parties, as well as Democratic members of Congress and voting rights groups.
Chris Cate, a spokesman for the Florida Department of State, said state officials were still reviewing the letter, but hinted Florida may fight federal authorities.
"Bottom line is we are firmly committed to doing the right thing and preventing ineligible voters from being able to cast a ballot," Cate said.
Florida, at the urging of Republican Gov. Rick Scott, began looking for non-U.S. citizens on its voter rolls last year. An initial search turned up as many as 182,000 registered voters who may not be U.S. citizens.

***The state’s effort has already come under fire from local election supervisors who belong to both political parties***
Well then these ‘supervisors’ are not fit to serve in this capacity. Party affiliation is irrelevant.
They should be investigated to see if they themselves are U.S. citizens and can vote. I won’t hold my breath, though.

Sure...we don’t want to ensure only eligible voters are voting.
Holder, don’t you have some guns and hand grenades to run?

I would fully support Scott giving a two-word press conference in response.
Second word is “off”....or “you”.

I can’t recall where I read it, but it said Obama wants to put Holder on the Supreme Court during his second term. Talk about scary....

Sounds like another case Obama/Holder eventually lose in the Supreme Court. Of course, that would never make the docket until after November 2nd.

I think these voters can be vetted without too many issues, but it will cost millions to do it right. This half-assed effort runs the risk of de-legitimizing all such efforts in the future. Rick Scott needs to knock some heads together and get the funding to do a thorough job, given that Holder is looking over his shoulder.

I know of several couples of ‘Snowbirds’ who live/have DLs in FL-PA-NC-NY, and vote in all 4 states, when they’re there for primaries and GEs. It’s illegal as hell, but they don’t care; they do it anyway. I’ve quit trying to explain the illegality of it to them.

Agreed, but if they’re ineligible live voters, they need to get off the rolls. Eligibility is the issue.

Florida should tell Holder to stuff it & continue to purge the voter rolls. Let him take Florida to court. Such an important case might take months or years to resolve. Note that every time Rats bring bogus arguments before an unbiased judge, they lose.
