TALLAHASSEE, Fla Federal authorities are demanding that Florida halt its push to remove ineligible voters from the voter rolls.
In a move that comes just months before the state could play a pivotal role in the 2012 presidential election, the U.S. Department of Justice contends that the state is violating federal law in its effort to identify and remove ineligible voters.
The state's effort has already come under fire from local election supervisors who belong to both political parties, as well as Democratic members of Congress and voting rights groups.
Chris Cate, a spokesman for the Florida Department of State, said state officials were still reviewing the letter, but hinted Florida may fight federal authorities.
"Bottom line is we are firmly committed to doing the right thing and preventing ineligible voters from being able to cast a ballot," Cate said.
Florida, at the urging of Republican Gov. Rick Scott, began looking for non-U.S. citizens on its voter rolls last year. An initial search turned up as many as 182,000 registered voters who may not be U.S. citizens.

Don’t worry about. He’ll be dead soon. He’s well over 90 now and served his country in a time of war.
So feel free to justify your denigration of this veteran instead of just apologizing like a man.
What no picture? OTOH with that resume forget about it....
What do I have to apologize for? His being a war hero doesn’t give him a free pass for the rest of his life. Do you really think it does?
Instead of being critical, he could have simply admitted that his error caused the problem, and then come out in support the effort to eliminate voter fraud. That would have been a powerful rebuke of Holder’s attempt to stop the effort.
As it is, Florida has now suspended the effort. I hope your war hero (and you) will be happy when the dead and illegals deliver the state to Obama in November.
Eric ‘Commie Red’ Holder said this was a “change” in the Voting Rights Act of 1965 so therefore, he has the statutory power and demanded to put a stop to it.
This guy can sure can make crap up to debase routine and legal business functions of removing illegal and outdated voters from the rolls.
Someone should remind Hussein that “He’s not in Kenya anymore” we have a constitution with election rules.
Damn, you’d think someone would have the balls to stand up against Uncle Sugar.
I’d love to see Texas stand for states rights and tell the feds to get screwed.
Then back it up with state law enforcement officers.
>>We need another Battle of Athens.<<
About twenty thousand able bodied men need to assemble peacefully, weapons unloaded, slung over their shoulders...to send a message, we’re done with the corruption.
Fix it, or we will.
Just when I hear or read something that makes me say, “I’ve heard it all now”, another story surfaces even more insane.
Example, John Edwards diverts thousands upon thousands of campaign dollars to hush up a baby daddy affair and walks while congress goes after Roger Clemens for lying about injecting steroids.
What’s wrong with this picture?
1. The man lies to state officials about his age 70 years ago.
2. His lie causes a discrepancy in the voter rolls, which the State asks him to explain.
3. The man is offended that the State would ask him to explain the discrepency he himself created because:
A. He is very old, and;
B. He served in WWII.
Neither of which are relevant to the issue. He may or may not be a prick, but his actions are right out of the leftist playbook.
That’s an excellent summation, except you forget one thing:
C. He’s a *decorated* war hero
Which, for some here, makes the guy forevermore immune from any kind of criticism whatsoever, even when the guy’s actions serve to further erode the integrity of our voting system. But then, what does voter integrity matter, when compared to a bronze star won at the Bulge in ‘44!?!?
Demanding? ROTFLMAO.
I say ignore the bastards!
The picture is on the linked thread, and it’s not all that purty a sight.
C. Hes a *decorated* war hero
Which, for some here, makes the guy forevermore immune from any kind of criticism whatsoever, even when the guys actions serve to further erode the integrity of our voting system. But then, what does voter integrity matter, when compared to a bronze star won at the Bulge in 44!?!?
You made it personal by attacking a 91 year-old decorated vet. instead of recognizing liberals using same vet for propaganda purposes.
My dad is a Navy vet who served on several ships including the USS Essex. He is old and a democrat his entire life. He still thinks the democrat party is the party of classic liberalism that it used to be.
I'm all for restoring voting integrity. I just don't feel the need to do it by attacking a vet that has been voting longer than I've been breathing.
Pick the right target!
make me....
Yes, Gov Scott; SAY IT!
Add a “bite me!” to that, and YES!
Everything’s been upside-down since the 0bummer&CoRegimeFromHell took power om Jan 20, 2009.
America is becoming more and more like Kenya and other Turd World Hellholes, with each passing day, isn’t it?
He *allowed* himself to be used as a poster boy, by not speaking out in clear support of Florida's effort to clean up the fraud.
You still don't get it: the guy got a letter *not* because Florida screwed up, but because he provided false information to the state. Florida had no record of anyone with his name and birth date ever being issued a Florida ID before.
And yet, when Florida very legitimately asks him how he can be registered to vote having never been issued a Florida ID, *he* is the one who gets indignant? He attacks the process? He abuses a state worker with his "Are you crazy?" comment?
The guy is a tool. A willing tool. And you're damn right it's personal. Helping to cancel out my vote by facilitating vote fraud is *very* personal to me.
Me too, but unfortantly we also have to deal with ignorant traitors among us like Ion Sancho. Who seem to think the 1964 Federal voting rights act’s discrimination among the states is a remotely legitimate power dispute the Federal Constitution’s clear Prohibition against non-uniform laws and total lack of enumerated authority over elections.
The imperial “federal government” has spent the last 150 years terrorizing our people into submission to its lawless edicts. We must device a means to effectively fight & stand up to them.
That starts with education and indignation. We are going to have to be opportunistic and pick our fights carefully.
