“One thing that has occurred to me just now, is that they are going to have a very hard time playing the “stupid” card against Mitt...”

Yes, I had almost exactly the same thought myself just the other day.

They might try it, but it’s not going to work. Romney’s not a genius and he doesn’t seem to be really an intellectual, but it’s going to be a hard sell that someone who was that successful in business is s.t.u.p.i.d.

And no, he doesn’t come from poverty, but my impression is that he’s far wealthier than his father was. And if granddad was living in some Mormon commune in early 20th century Mexico my guess is he wasn’t rich at all.

Of course Obama can’t attack Romney from the right. I suppose they could try that too, but I can’t really see them going for it besides calling Romney a flip-flopper, but that would really be a case of pot/kettle/black.

I guess we can’t blame them, they’ve got no accomplishments to boast of, so they’ve got to try all these things. But either they are so stupid on their face (like the hair cut story) or so badly executed (like the company that closed 2 years AFTER Romney left Bain) that they just aren’t getting any traction with them.

And yes, I give Romney credit for punching back hard. Romney’s a mild mannered guy, but again, you don’t get that far in business without being very, very competitive and aggressive.

You're right -- how do you think he managed to, after the second time around (part 2 of the 2008 primary), get the nomination in a party where, truth be told, he has no business judging by his actual record?

Very very competitive and aggressive. He plays hardball -- witness the $$$$ attack ad campaing on Newt, and the primaries where some kind of deadline was missed and Romney and I think Paul (I've forgotten) were the only official guys on that state's primary ballot. That's hardball, like a good businessman with a good organization behind him.

If Romney wins, that is what conservatives in the Republican party would be going up against, that kind of aggessiveness and competitiveness.

Come summer of 2013, it won't matter what you voted against, only what you voted FOR.
