Picture them with one of the 16" turrets removed and about a 92 cell array of VLS missiles, along with CIWS, RAM, etc. The arsenal ship configuration was considered for the Iowas, leaving a single 16" turret and loading the baby up with 120 or so missiles.
But, that is past now and the new Zumwalt DDGs will sufice...but we should build 8-12 of them instead of just three.
