During the Vietnam war the Mormon church was requesting excessive deferments for their young men. They met with the government and finally agreed to limit the deferments each ward could request for young men to go on missions. It was understood that after finishing their mission the young men would be eligible to serve. Romney got his first deferment to attend college, when he quit school he requested a 2nd to go on a mission. When he returned he request a 3rd to again attend college. He insults the military when he claims his sons serve their country by campaigning for him.

I am probably wrong to be so sensitive after all of these years but it still means a whole lot to me whether someone of my generation served during our war or not. And, no, I will never believe that going on a religious mission or going to college is equivalent service when there is fighting and dying going on for our country. To this day, the guys who served with me are the men I will always respect and the guys that stayed back - well, I don't need them for anything.

It probably doesn't help that I spent part of the morning re-watching A Face of War, the Vietnam documentary on YouTube. It is a good view of who we were and what we did and it reminds me of who we really are, not what the Left would have us believe we are.
