Katie, do you remember Barbara Walters? She was few decades ago. If anyone was a pioneer, she was, not you.

Contemporary of both Katy (agewise, just 8 months older) and Barbwa (career wise) was Australian Robin Schebatsky lookalike, Jana Wendt

News co-anchor at 24, two years later she was interviewing Muammar Gaddafi for Australian 60 minutes. No-one ever called her "perky" or said she "lacked gravitas" and she never asked anyone what kind of twee they would be.

In the politcal interviewing game the interviewer's job is to get answers or at least make it plain the pol is being evasive. The politician's job is to be evasive without looking so. Australian Liberal leader John Howard was a Master of doing this while making the interviewer look as if they hadn't understood the answer. Jana was Mistress of making it cleat the question hadn't been answered. Her interviews with him were a joy to behold, neither ever won but the footwork was delightful.

Almost as delightful as seeing her go against a foreign politician who was expecting a Couric and never considered why Jana was known a "The Perfumed Steamroller"

Her story is she used the implacable icequeen style to control herself as she is an inveterate giggler.

Some evidence of this may be "interviwer meltdown with Robin Williams".

20 years later - still on Youtubes http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DNOdDfc_5Jyc>

Katy

You'll feel cheated, you'll be mistreated. You'll wonder, when will I be loved?’
Katy, Machiavelli pointed out long ago, the way to respect, even admiration, is not love, it's fear.
