LANSING, MI -- Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter said late Friday he has been told that he may not have turned in enough valid voter signatures to qualify for the August primary ballot.

"I have been apprised my campaign may have submitted insufficient petition signatures to appear on the August primary ballot as a candidate for the 11th Congressional District's Republican nomination."

Incredible. The man was running for president (low key campaign). He spoke at our Lincoln Day Dinner a couple years ago. I can’t imagine this level of incompetence.

I don’t know if it is incompetence. He submitted the 2000 maximum signatures.
In Michigan you can only sign one petition per race. For example, one for House of Rep, One for Senate, etc. If another candidate used a signature then that could null and void the signature.

It would have taken only a few hours to have vetted the signatures against the registered voter list. He probably hit 2k and thought he was done.

Democrats have been known to intentional mess up a candidate’s petition with a small detail rendering the signature invalid.

Also, the SOS randomly checks signatures on ballots. There are 15 per page and if they find one invalid they sideline tthe whole sheet. He can ask for a full accounting of each signature though. The article left out this kind of detail.

MIRS, a Lansing political website, reported late Friday that while McCotter's campaign turned in 2,000 signatures, a preliminary review by the state indicated he had fewer than 1,000 valid signatures.

Okay, maybe it wasn’t incompetence. But it was a tremendous failure. What’s the difference?

Hard to feel sorry for a loser that backed that lying, left-wing, Progressive Liberal Romney early on.

McCotter had an ACU rating last year (2011) below 67%, and a lifetime rating below 83%.

That's pathetic.
