Madison - Absentee voting in the June 5 recall election already far exceeds that of the primary earlier this month.
As of Wednesday, at least 90,000 Wisconsin voters had cast an absentee ballot, up from 68,000 in the May 8 recall primary, according to the Government Accountability Board. The state elections agency gathers those numbers in its voter registration system from just over a third of the municipalities in the state, including all the state's large cities.
The figures came out as a new poll showed Gov. Scott Walker with a 5 percentage point lead over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, similar to his advantage in other recent polls. The survey by St. Norbert College and Wisconsin Public Radio had a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
Democrats contend the race is tightening as spending begins to even in the final two weeks of the race, and both sides have said voter turnout will be key to determining the winner. The absentee figures add more evidence the election could be a high-turnout event.
"These numbers confirm anecdotal reports we are hearing from local election officials that there is strong interest in absentee voting," said Kevin Kennedy, the accountability board's director.
In-person absentee voting started Monday and runs through 5 p.m. on June 1. Some election offices, including the city of Milwaukee Election Commission, are offering extended hours to handle demand.

Wisconsin: Absentee voting in recall exceeds absentee voting in primary
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list
Wonder how many dead people just voted........................
That’s why the corrupt left likes absentee voting - mail fraud is much safer than voting in person.
I do not take this as a good sign. Probably a lot of the non-resident students voting before they leave for home plus the usual ‘rat machine fraud.
Combine that with a recent “tightening” of the polls and I wonder if the ‘rat machine is going to actually manage to steal this one after all.
I have the same fear. Plus, out of state buses were spotted bringing voters to the Milwaukee polls yesterday. Now, anybody can rent a bus with an out of state license, but it raises my antennae.
If Democrats can’t win, they resort to Plan B which is to turn the election into a three ring circus and cast doubt on the legitimacy of the outcome. I think they’re on to Plan B.
As of Wednesday, at least 90,000 Wisconsin voters had cast an absentee ballot,...And why are they NOT validating the eligibility of those ballots? This could be done before June 5.
That`s been my concern.. the close proximity to the belly of the beast of corruption, AKA Chicago, makes fraud an easy process.
Sounds like the Unions just won - through fraud.
If Wisconsin has this same practice, I'd gladly send the money to have one of those absentee voters followed on election day AND I'd pay to cover the administrative costs.
Also known as the banana republic style "voters". Voter fraud in action.
It just seems to me, with the computers we have today, the tax lists we have , etc. each ballot, each name, each address could be verified with a minimum of delay. Am I wrong? It seems government hasn’t kept up with technology and DOES’NT want to.
Direct your comments to JeanS and wisconsinlady. My comment about the buses is derived from their on-the-ground reports. Buses have been reported by Mark Belling too.
As I mentioned, the buses with Missouri plates pulling up at the Milwaukee courthouse disgorging voters could just have been rented from out of state by the Dems. The voters could well have been Wisconsin voters, as I read elsewhere on this board that there is a Dem website where you can go to get a ride to the polls. Click a link, enter your name, and they will pick you up at a designated corner.
The point is that the Republicans are not watching the downtown polls (or haven't been) and they are also not dragging their voters in to vote. Everything thing seems to be phone calls. I am so sick of phone calls.
Rule of thumb; low turn-out usually favors the Conservatives. High turn-out usually favors the Libs.
Some election offices, including the city of Milwaukee Election Commission, are offering extended hours to handle demand.

College kids should already be out for this semester and on their way home; shouldn’t they?
Chill out kevkrom. Stop the hand-wringing. Walker is gonna pull it out.
