White House calls 'BS' on GOP criticism of Obama spending

White House press secretary Jay Carney ripped GOP criticism about spending under the Obama administration, calling it “BS.”
Carney also said reporting on the GOP criticism without exploring the counter-argument is “a sign of sloth and laziness” during an exchange Wednesday with reporters on Air Force One.
“Do not buy into the BS that you hear,” Carney said, according to tweets and reports from multiple reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday.
Carney, a former reporter, read a passage from an article by Rex Nutting at MarketWatch called “The Obama spending binge never happened.”
The article says that spending under the Obama administration has grown more slowly than at any point since the 1950s, and that claims to the contrary are due to a misunderstanding of how to read federal budget data.
“Although there was a big stimulus bill under Obama, federal spending is rising at the slowest pace since Dwight Eisenhower brought the Korean War to an end in the 1950s,” Nutting says in the article.
Carney said reporting GOP claims that there is an unprecedented spending binge, and not reporting this opposing view, is a sign of “sloth and laziness” on the part of reporters. He then said the Bush administration’s “tax cuts for the rich” were the reason the “red ink was gushing” when President Obama came into office.
“The president has demonstrated significant fiscal restraint,” Carney continued. “Of all the falsehoods told about … President Obama, the biggest whopper is the one about his reckless spending spree. It didn’t happen.”
James Pethokoukis, a financial columnist for the conservative American Enterprise Institute, countered this claim with a blog of his own: “Actually, the Obama spending binge really did happen.”
The Pethokoukis analysis breaks down the administration’s spending as a percentage of gross domestic product, which would make the last four years the most profligate since World War II.
Obama traveled to Colorado Springs, Colo., on Wednesday to deliver a commencement address at the Air Force Academy.

They are lying with statistics.
There was a huge one-year jump in spending between 2008 and 2009 due to numerous factors including TARP and massive job losses. Obama, Pelosi and Reid then locked in this higher 2009-level spending over the subsequent three years, 2010-2012.
The left blames the 2008-2009 spending jump entirely on Bush (ignoring that the ‘Rats controlled Congress and that there was a massive recession and the banking crisis) and claim that Obama has bravely held spending steady since.
However if you compare average annual spending for the four years of Obama’s term (2009-2012) to the average spending during Bush’s eight years (2001-2008) Obama’s is something like 20% higher.
Damned lies and statistics.

Obama is blaming the 1 trillion increase on Bush, and then claiming that he’s increased spending less than anyone else in the past 60 years. Even though he’s got that same trillion to spend again & again every year.
As we all know, calling the reporters who are going to report on your words and on the President's actions "lazy" and slothful is guaranteed to win you lots of good press...
Carney is on the verge of losing it.
The big question is will the WH press corps just whimper and run away with their tails between their legs, or will they find a way to return the favor and shove those words back up Carney's rectum?

Obama’s government spending did not include transfer payments in its analysis of the federal budget, which includes – but is not limited to – Social Security and welfare payments.
Since when do Social Security and welfare not count in federal spending? In reality, total federal spending has grown significantly over the last three years.
