Exact same experience here. It was a wealthy area, that had a large complex that was mostly section 8. Unfortunately, there were a couple of wealthy high rises just beyond that section 8 complex, so we couldn't do the whole "so sorry, you are just outside our delivery area" thing.
We had quite a few robberies, and a couple of drivers got beaten up pretty badly, but nothing truly horrific.
I also worked as a courier for a little while (car, not bike). We would take overflow packages that the big delivery companies couldn't fit into their routes. Surprise, surprise, it seemed that virtually all of the excess deliveries at the end of the day were just off of our own Martin Luther King Blvd. Just coincidence, I am sure.
I quit the day after I had to go into one of the larger apartment buildings after 7:30 on a Friday evening. Not worth 12 dollars an hour. Probably not worth 1200 dollars an hour.

A real nightmare is to drive a cab into black areas, or even to pick up blacks. Many cab drivers avoid them, even black drivers!

I live in one of the safest cities in America. Over 300,000 people and we used to have years with 0 homicides. Then they opened a Section 8 apartment. The first year it opened, we had two black on black homicides.
