A Chicago police officer suffered a stab wound to the leg, Sunday, and three others were injured during a day of protests around the NATO summit.
Chicago police Supt. Garry McCarthy did not know what was used to stab the officer and became emotional when discussing the crowd with which his officers dealt.
"If you think it's easy to ask people to do what they did, it's not," he said, pausing to gain his composure. "Asking people to put themselves in harm's way, knowing that they're going to get assaulted, and to be able to stand there and take it, those guys were amazing."
Overall, officers arrested more than 45 individuals during a day of marches and protests (that turned violent in the evening hours)
[snip] Officers knew that a group of Black Bloc anarchists planned to storm McCormick place after a group of war veterans finished its demonstration there.

Chicago Way
Just Chicago being Chicago
Shouldn’t this officer toughen-up a bit instead of simpering like rep boner. The protesters only assualted the other officers...they didn’t kill them or anything.
Bull cheet. I've never seen a cop just "stand and take it" as this government official claims.
Chicago: A war zone for Americans to visit without needing a passport.
The Occupy movement, by being tied to Obama and the Dems, will insure that Obama loses. Trust me on this. I’m old enough to remember 1972 and what happened to McGovern.
I watched plenty of local news coverage—quite a bit of it live—over all four days. Those guys stood and put up with a LOT.
Oh, for Frank Rizzo on the beat....
If a cop and his partners just “stand and take it” when one gets stabbed, as this government official suggested, well then that makes them pretty damn stupid.
No sale.
It’s called “following orders” and “don’t give ‘em what they want”.
They were being taunted, pelted with frozen water bottles, sticks, urine...anything to try and incite a repeat of 1968, which was just what the Occupiers and Black Bloc wanted. Restraint was what was called for...especially as half the protesters were holding up cameras and phones in hopes of a “bloody shirt” picture.
The cops swung clubs when it was called for...like when the mob charged the police line. Which, by the way, is the same melee in which the cop got stabbed.

This site is a super source for info on this giant clustersuck that rahm has unleashed on Chicago. These cops were asked to do the impossible. At one point they had 200 officers doing a training session when others needed help...Those war veterans to which the article referred where “returning” their medals by throwing them on the ground.
The Sentinel group published an article this am reporting that the protesters where throwing plastic bottles. Had I not read this second city cop site, my reaction would have been BFD. Knowing that the bottle were filled with human waste (not reported by the Sentinel or other MSM) changes things quite a bit.
Sort of like the Johnson/MacNamara rules of engagement in 'Nam" We had to get shot at before we could shoot back and visually ID enemy planes before we could engage them in air to air. A lot of names turned up on the wall because of that kind of idiocy.
Some were frozen water bottles, which is as good as throwing a rock.
Scroll down on Second City Cop to see where the local cops uncovered a pre-made cache of urine-and-feces-filled water bottles several weeks before the convention.
Where’s Melee? Oh, it’s suburb of Chicago...
My thought exactly. Since when must cops just stand there and take this abuse?
If Obama had several sons, they would look like these psychopaths of the Black Bloc Movement and their communist allies. Hoods with hoodies, masks and weapons - NOT REPUBLICANS, I CAN ASSURE YOU.
> Im old enough to remember 1972 and what happened to McGovern.
So am I.
So am I, but this has stark differences.
1st, McGovern was never a sitting president.
2nd, the average Democrat pol back then was a bit to the right of the GOP-E today.
3rd, America was not compromised of 10s of millions of illegal immigrants and 10s of millions of other immigrants who have no love for America.
4th, and not to be ignored, America as a whole was far better educated and the schools were not seething beds of tenured Communists and other “progressives” out to radically transform America into a Socialist state...
There are more things to ponder and the above list is by no means all inclusive.
This protest is certainly not in the peaceful vein of Martin Luther King and Ghandi. The Left just uses those two men as props.
Read the article and it says police were tipped off to an IED in a backpack.
It contained a liquid that was sent off for testing.
Likely gasoline.
