DENVER -- A US Postal Service letter carrier was attacked by two dogs in a Denver neighborhood Monday afternoon.
Denver police said the postal worker was delivering mail at West 34th Avenue and Utica Street when she was bit.
The female employee suffered extensive injuries and was transported to the hospital to be treated, said David Rupert, a spokesman for the US Postal Service.
A neighbor saw what was happening and came to the letter carrier's rescue, but was injured as well, Rupert said.
The two dogs were eventually corralled and taken away. The dogs were described as a Malumute mix and a Chow mix.
Denver Animal Control is investigating.
Coincidentally, this week is USPS Dog Bite Prevention Week, Rupert said. Denver ranks as the No. 8 city in the U.S. for dog attacks on postal carriers, which should cause some alarm, he said.

why do you say that garbage? She was seriously injured apparently. This isn’t a joke.
BTW, just getting a PO Box these days is a real nightmare. The first one I rented, I just showed up at the counter, gave them a $12 check for the next year, gave them my name, signed a one-sentence agreement and away I went.
The last one I rented - picture ID, proof of residency at a physical address, birth certificate, social security #, a lengthy rental agreement, 3 day waiting period and $60 in cash or money order.
The cud-chewing fatty at the counter was surly and blamed the Patriot Act when I posed the polite version of WTF?.
In my experience, a chow is commonly a biter, and not on my list of dogs with reliable behavior. In other words, they can be unreliable without being mixed with a pit bull.
