We missed this yesterday as it went viral, but maybe that's for the best since now I can bring you the exciting conclusion: She's been suspended (with pay).
An employee at the Rowan-Salisbury School System said they have been flooded with calls from around the country on Monday...
The district released a statement on Monday.
The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students. Due to personnel and student confidentiality, we cannot discuss the matter publicly.
I'm 99 percent convinced that she’s a liberal who was forced to fall back on the inane "presidents can't be criticized" argument to seem 'even-handed' while imposing a gag order on O’s behalf, but one percent of me is holding out for the possibility that she really might believe it. Actual quote from the clip: “As a social studies teacher I cannot allow you to slander any president in here, past or present. If thats the case, somebody could say negative things about the Tea Party.” …Yeah. Imagine if people started saying negative things about the tea party.
Maybe she just meant that she wanted to keep the classroom more or less free from political contention? I.e. no bashing Bush, no bashing Obama, no bashing the tea party, etc. Although in that case, what’s with her claiming that people were arrested for criticizing Bush? Are we dealing with a lefty hack here or, more terrifying, a social studies teacher whose grasp on the First Amendment is a lot less tight than her students’? Two clips for you, one the abridged version with highlights from Fox News and the other the director’s cut.
For those who missed the story, here’s the report:
EXCERPT:
A teacher at a Rowan County school has been suspended after getting national attention for a YouTube video video that surfaced last week showing her yelling at her students, saying its wrong to criticize the president.
In the YouTube video, North Rowan High School teacher Tonya Dixon-Neely and her students were debating several political issues, including a discussion about President Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney.
The video, which was uploaded on May 14, had more than 178,000 views on YouTube as of Monday afternoon. The story has been picked up by national media outlets, including Fox News and the New York Post. Controversial radio host Rush Limbaugh discussed the issue on his radio show on Monday afternoon as well.
The conversation starts as the class discusses recent accusations that Mitt Romney bullied someone as a teenager in the 1960s.
But the conversation quickly turns into an argument between several students and the teacher, with some students questioning Obama and asking if Obama bullied someone in high school as well.
Thats disrespect. This man (Romney) is a presidential candidate. Hes not the president, the teacher is heard shouting. Let me tell you something. You will not disrespect the president of the United States in this classroom.
Ill say what I want, countered one male student.
Not about him you wont, yelled the teacher.
Im going to call my dad real quick. Well see, the student added. I didnt disrespect him, I was just asking a question. I have different beliefs.
The teacher is still employed but has been suspended with pay. An employee at the Rowan-Salisbury School System said they have been flooded with calls from around the country on Monday.
Later in the video the conversation turns foul-mouthed when the discussion changes to President Bush.
Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things bad about Bush, the teacher continued. You are not supposed to slander.
As a social studies teacher I cannot allow you to slander any president in here, past or present. If thats the case, somebody could say negative things about the Tea Party.
Here’s a video of the scene for those who want to watch :

Hannity played a clip from this; the teacher sounds like a crackhead from Newark NJ.
The student actually knows more about our constitution than the teacher.
Absolutely; I couldn’t imagine what the workfare recipient was even doing in the classroom.
I would cry if my children had to sit in front of someone like that for any kind of instruction.
the teacher sounds like a crackhead NBPP, Al Sharpton copy, from Newark NJ.
She should win dumbest teacher of the year. Her thinking is dumb beyond belief.
I hope whatever school gave her a degree is exposed as well; they should be ashamed of themselves.
Ah yes, the results of “affirmative action”.
It's one thing, when asked by a student, for a teacher to explain his/her political beliefs, but shouldn't teachers be discouraged from trying to promote their own politics over those of students who have different beliefs--especially in a classroom environment?
I am not even certain how someone who speaks as ignorantly as this woman can even apply for a teaching job.
The only thing anyone on this earth can learn from a person such as this is how NOT to be.
Can *I* get suspended with pay? I sure have a bunch of projects piling up around the house...
“the results of affirmative action”.
Good point. I’ll bet she met Obama at Harvard Law School.
‘suspended with pay’. Just another way of saying PAID VACATION,
Back during the campaign my nephew was suspended for
two days because a teacher heard him repeating an
obama joke.
He’s a sharp kid, couldn’t fool him.
“Ah yes, the results of affirmative action.”
Does anyone know if this woman is one of “Holder’s People?” Since they aren’t mentioning race in the articles, my guess is probably she is.
Should I worry that the clueless, FAT, beatch head of the Dept of Homeland [IN]Security, Janet [IN]Competano will send some of her Jack-Booted Thugs to "counsel me," for my referring to Barry as a FASCIST, HATE-AMERICA, NEO-COMMIE, SCUMBAG?
I'm surprised that the far left hypocritical Loons at the Southern Poverty Law Center has not named Free Republic as a "Threat" and a "Hate Group."
If anyone thinks I am the least concerned about possible repurcussions for attacking the phony Community Agitator in Least let me assure all that I'd welcome an opportunity to have this Regime try and silence me or any of my fellow Freepers.
Go ahead you phony, bottom-feeding Moonbat, make my day!!!
