SALISBURY — Rowan-Salisbury Schools officials suspended a North Rowan High School teacher Monday while investigating an incident caught on camera where the teacher told a student he could be arrested for speaking ill of President Barack Obama.
In a nearly 10-minute YouTube video shot by a student in the classroom, Tanya Dixon-Neely, a social studies teacher, told students criticism of the president could lead to jail time.
“Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things bad about Bush?” she said of former President Bush. “Do you realize you are not supposed to slander the president?”
Dixon-Neely has been suspended with pay, according to Rowan-Salisbury School System Spokeswoman Rita Foil.
On Friday, Foil said the incident can be a learning experience.
“The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students.”
A Salisbury Post reporter went to Dixon-Neely's home for comment this morning, but no one answered the door. Calls to her number have gone unanswered and there is no answering machine.
The video went viral over the weekend and viewership jumped from about 1,000 views to more than 168,000 Monday morning.
Incompetence indicates not knowing better but having the capacity to learn.
Stupidity on the other hand is the reason for exposing what may be incompetence though I suspect it was just an outward manifestation of the stupidity.
The student could be arrested?? what BS....
I called the school on Friday and asked to speak to the Superintendent but was told he was unavailable and calls were being referred to their public relations so gave an earful to the young lady who answered the phone. Said principal should also be fired. Then called the PR lady who was not taking calls either so left a message for her and then called back and left a message on her cell phone. Have alerted friends of situation and someone will call them every day for at least the next week so we keep pressure on.
So thankful for FR - otherwise we out in flyover country would never know about this garbage and be able to add our two cents. If it’s happening in one school it is happening in others.

She is definitely a typical Obama voter. There is no video. The vid is pointed at the ceiling the whole time...as if from a cell phone sitting on the desk. It is all audio.
I heard the father on the radio this AM. He is pulling the boy out of that school and will likely send him to private school.
If I had young kids today I’d work 3 jobs if I had to in order to send them to a private school, or home school.
I just listened to the nine minutes. It doesn’t sound like a classroom where education is occurring. It sounds like a day care center stocked with cases of acutely arrested development, and a teacher I wouldn’t hire to wash floors, never mind brains.
She is also publicly accusing someone, falsely, of slander.

I was wrong, it was her husband who graduated from North Rowan. Ms. Dixon-Neely graduated from nearby Salisbury HS. She has strong ties to the community which will likely protect her job if she offers a coerced, half-hearted apology to the class.

Speaking of smart kids and stupid educrats, stop me if you’ve heard this one:
A first-grade teacher, Ms Brooks, was having trouble with one of her students. The teacher asked, ‘Harry, what’s your problem?’
Harry answered, ‘I’m too smart for the 1st grade. My sister is in the 3rd grade and I’m smarter than she is! I think I should be in the 3rd grade too!’
Ms. Brooks had had enough. She took Harry to the principal’s office.
While Harry waited in the outer office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was. The principal told Ms. Brooks he would give the boy a test. If he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the 1st grade and behave. She agreed.
Harry was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he agreed to take the test.
Principal: ‘What is 3 x 3?’
Harry: ‘9.’
Principal: ‘What is 6 x 6?’
Harry: ‘36.’
And so it went with every question the principal thought a 3rd grader should know.
The principal looks at Ms. Brooks and tells her, ‘I think Harry can go to the 3rd grade’
Ms. Brooks says to the principal, ‘Let me ask him some questions..’ The principal and Harry both agreed.
Ms. Brooks asks, ‘What does a cow have four of, that I have only two of?’
Harry, after a moment: ‘Legs.’
Ms. Brooks: ‘What is in your pants that you have but I do not have?’
The principal wondered why would she ask such a question!
Harry replied: ‘Pockets.’
Ms. Brooks: ‘What does a dog do that a man steps into?’
Harry: ‘Pants.’
The principal sat forward with his mouth hanging open.
Ms. Brooks: ‘What goes in hard and pink then comes out soft and sticky?’
The principal’s eyes opened really wide and before he could stop the answer, Harry replied, ‘Bubble gum.’
Ms. Brooks: ‘What does a man do standing up, a woman does sitting down and a dog does on three legs?’
Harry: ‘Shake hands .’
The principal was trembling.
Ms. Brooks: ‘What word starts with an ‘F’ and ends in ‘K’ that means a lot of heat and excitement?’
Harry:
‘Firetruck.’
The principal breathed a sigh of relief and told the teacher, ‘Put Harry in the fifth grade, I got the last seven questions wrong!’
Soupy Sales would have been proud. “F——K” was used his program.
Sending kids to the goobermint school for babysitting is not the idea, education is vitally important for the nation as a whole. I expect at least a tiny bit of effort by the school administration to find teachers that are qualified to teach their classes. This was inexcusable not just because the teacher was politically biased or abusive, but primarily because the teacher does not have even a basic understanding of civil rights.
Not long, unless they have AIDS in the newly found 0h0m0's kingdom.
