The case involves Malaika Brooks, who was seven months pregnant and driving her 11-year-old son to school in Seattle when she was pulled over for speeding. The police say she was going 32 miles per hour in a school zone; the speed limit was 20.
Ms. Brooks said she would accept a ticket but drew the line at signing it, which state law required at the time. Ms. Brooks thought, wrongly, that signing was an acknowledgment of guilt.
Refusing to sign was a crime, and the two officers on the scene summoned a sergeant, who instructed them to arrest Ms. Brooks. She would not get out of her car.
The situation plainly called for bold action, and Officer Juan M. Ornelas met the challenge by brandishing a Taser and asking Ms. Brooks if she knew what it was.
She did not, but she told Officer Ornelas what she did know. I have to go to the bathroom, she said. I am pregnant. Im less than 60 days from having my baby.
The three men assessed the situation and conferred. Well, dont do it in her stomach, one said. Do it in her thigh.
Officer Ornelas twisted Ms. Brookss arm behind her back. A colleague, Officer Donald M. Jones, applied the Taser to Ms. Brookss left thigh, causing her to cry out and honk the cars horn. A half-minute later, Officer Jones applied the Taser again, now to Ms. Brookss left arm. He waited six seconds before pressing it into her neck.
Ms. Brooks fell over, and the officers dragged her into the street, laying her face down and cuffing her hands behind her back.

When I read about this and the horrible Kelly Thomas case in Fullerton, CA, I wonder what’s going on? The number of police incidents like this seems to be on the rise.
If the cops will not fire these guys, men from the town need to do the same to these cops. In the navy we called it a blanket party.
Pretty clear case of a Tazer used to torture a suspect into compliance. She was not attacking the cops. I suspect with a good lawyer, she will own next years new cop cars.
In the least, all three should be fired, immediately, with out pay, or retirement. If they will torture a pregnant driver over a traffic ticket, how many have they killed over money?
Two big, bad, authoritian cops have to taser a pregnant woman because they’re afraid she might kick their asses.
As I recall when my wife was pregnant, this kind of behavior is only legal after the 8 1/2 month of pregnancy.
Gee, I just can’t understand why so many people hate the pigs.
Comply or fly (and possibly die)!
Wonder if her kid made it to school on time.
Sorry Folks, I’m slit down the middle on this one.
I’m sick and tired of momma’s flying past me in the school zones.
...and quite a bit more.
99.9% of the police are a-holes. They are an enemy of the Constitution. A ham sammich can be arrested with made up violations. Avoid contact if you can.
Yes but at a blanket party, you don't kick the recipient in the face as hard as you can, then keep kicking until it's completely unrecognizable.
That's what these scumbags deserve.
So you're "slit down the middle" on whether pregnant women who go 12 MPH over the school zone limit should be brutalized?
WTF is wrong with you? Seriously.
call me a sexist...
but I need to see how pretty mrs Brookes is before I decide how innocent she is.
She wasn’t tasered for that. She wasn’t even tasered for refusing to sign. She was tasered for refusing to get out of her car.
Good thing, the family wasn’t along for the ride.
This society wants to prevent crime and solve all crimes, giving the cops way too much power. They become much more tempted in using those powers and surveillance equipment to rape good people than going after the perps - with whom sometimes they befriend, by the way.
We should carry our own guns, shoot in self defense, talk to people, slow down on automatic signatures, and that would be that.
I almost replied to you, but decided not to waste my time after seeing the low-rent stupidity displayed on your #14.
