California has reason to worry about its business climate
Sacramento Bee ^ | 5/20/12 | Dan Walters

Posted on 05/20/2012 12:42:03 PM PDT by SmithL

The Los Angeles Times published an article last week about Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad's efforts to recruit California businesses to his state, citing complaints about California's business climate.

Gov. Jerry Brown's spokesman, Gil Duran, told the Times in response, "This is a Republican myth that is often repeated yet simply not true. Reputable studies have shown that businesses are not fleeing the state for the cold, empty and desolate hinterlands."

The response typified the Capitol's dismissive attitude toward any suggestion that we have become economically uncompetitive.

. . .

Making California hospitable to that job-creating investment should be Job No. 1 in Sacramento, as it is in most other state capitals.

But California's politicians have seemingly gone out of their way to make the state inhospitable, with a dense regulatory structure (including the new cap-and-trade system for limiting carbon emissions), ever higher utility costs, one of the nation's highest tax burdens, and deficiencies in education, transportation, water supply and other forms of public infrastructure.

And it's not just a Republican myth.

Republican myth? Geez, what a cretin!!

Explain this:

*The tax burden for a company to operate a business in California is 13 to 14 percent higher than the rest of the country

*In 2011, more businesses (254) quit California than the year before (202), which was a high-water mark over 2009 (51). Last year, roughly five businesses left in any given week, one more than left in each week of 2010 when the average was 3.9.

Cali to Businesses: GET OUT!!

Mitt or Obama will make sure the rest of the country "saves" California. True justice would make certain that California be allowed to totally collapse. To have the rest of America pay for the sins of the vile, evil politicians of that corrupt State government is an evil that should cause the rest of the Republic to rise in righteous indignation.

But, being rabid statists, Mitt or Obama will make sure we transfer the cancer of California Marxism to the rest of the country. The politicians in California know they have an out (at least for a few years).

With Mitt or Obama as President the path to ultimate collapse is unavoidable.

"...the cold, empty and desolate hinterlands."

Remember that remark in the future when they demand we bail them out. :)

“Gov. Jerry Brown’s spokesman, Gil Duran, told the Times in response, “This is a Republican myth that is often repeated yet simply not true. Reputable studies have shown that businesses are not fleeing the state for the cold, empty and desolate hinterlands.””

Just three, all among the largest companies in their industries:

Fluor Corp, Orange County CA to Irving TX (Major international engineering & construction contractor to energy, chemical, mining, government infrastructure, nuclear and other markets)

Fidelity National Financial, Santa Barbara CA to Jacksonville FL (2nd largest Title company in the US, plus related financial services, real estate related software, etc).

Northrup-Grumann, Century City CA to Wash. DC suburb (one of the top defense contractors in the world)

They may not be fleeing to Iowa or empty and desolate hinterlands, but they a fleeing, nonetheless.

And their flight is a huge component of the state’s fiscal disaster. Those fleeing companies take with them very highly paid top executives and staff, plus support services, real estate interests, etc.

Gone forever.

I predict the voters will NOT aapprove tax increases, so the state will make the deeper cuts, which in turn will in the short run drag down the economy.

You are making a common mistake.
Aside from LA and Sodom by-the-Bay, the rest of California has been in a state of righteous indignation for decades!

This be true, the urban Marxist queers have been riding roughshod over the producers in the rest of California for more than three decades.

There.
Clarified it for you.

When the proverbial ten-ton elephant lands, it will be on them.
I just hope to have the power to prosecute them for incompetence, arbitrary and capricious law-making and abuse of public office.

When a California based business adds employees, where are they added? Often it is not in California, but in some more business friendly state or country.

So why do professional relocators of business have a standard saying “ABC” - anyplace but California? There is no place in the word that loves regulations more than California.

Okay Brown, call off your fascists brown shirts that are demanding entrance into businesses to make sure they paid all their sales tax and use tax obligations. Heck, I actually had to get dressed to let one of your soldiers into my former Kalifornia business address.
