Mmmm... Western Tanager. They used to frequent our back yard in Southern California, and they're just lovely. That is a male. The females do not have the red face, and their wing markings are slightly more subdued.
But my story has a very sad ending. One day, a female smashed into our window and died. The birds never returned to our yard again. I cried.

I just knew you’d like this! I know you love birds, too..I hate it when a bird kills himself on one of my sliding doors..It has been a while but I mourn the loss..
2 years ago a baby cardinal fell out of the nest too soon and I could not save him..though I put him back and wired a basket under the nest to support its flimsy tilting support..I cut the bush way down so they would not rebuild there again.
Thanks for a the female picture..The males get all the fancy “duds” in the bird world it seems!
