Yeah---his accent and the native batik headdress and ceremonial sword he wore at the interview was seen as bringing "diversity" to the security industry.
My guess is he got clearance b/c he looked like your average American.....ROTFL.
For one background check I had to get (among many) for clearance for a project at Chi's O'Hare Airport, I had to go to the the FBI's main office in the Federal Building in downtown Chicago for fingerprinting, ID photo taken, and then wait (while my existing FBI file was being double checked) for the Picture ID badge to be issued to me. So how Nigerian 'Jerry Thomas' got clearance baffles me.
Plus, I'm sure that 'Jerry Thomas' must have had a 'slight accent' (/s) that should have been a teeny tipoff he wasn't who he claimed to be.
