You can have my cheeseburger when you pry it from my warm, greasy fingers.
And have fun doing it when I'm sitting on your skinny $ss...

There’s a story in a sci fi anthology I read about food police in the future. And I believe one of the contraband addressed was a hamburger.

(In Nov 2012 my 11 y/o granddaughter will have more relevant executive experience than Barack Obama)

That’s easy. Just weigh the Obama-voters and onetime tax tem per pound, Or ton.

We're so far away from what our forefathers intended.
I have a NATURAL right to eat what I want...without government interference or penalty.

Cutting the size of government would eliminate the need for additional taxes/ money. Thus, you wouldn’t have to use this as an excuse as justification to raise taxes. You think they’d eliminate the tax once everyone is “thin”?? LOL! This is what this is all about—an excuse to lay on extra layers of tax revenues using “weight” as an excuse. Everything they do is based on some “excuse”. These gov’t people are con-artists.

LOL! No effect on honest American businesses there right?
Lets just tax fast food until there is no fast food...

It will prevent 2700 deaths a year??
Well, if they will list the names of the folks saved each year, I'm in.

This has nothing to do about public health and everything to do with another revenue stream to the government. Do you really think an 80 cent increase will stop ANYBODY from ordering a cheeseburger, let alone an obese person who has self control problems to begin with. Heck, I remember when a quarterpounder at Mcdonalds was $1 now it's $3+ yet they seem to be selling plenty of them.

My exact thought also, plus the only people it will really hurt are the ones who probably can’t afford to pay more for food in the first place.

A ‘Fat Tax’ could curb the nation’s obesity problem about as well as “The War on Poverty” defeated poverty.
To: Abathar
More tax under the guise of good intentions paid for by those who are least likely able to afford it. Tax the rich my a$$.

“Theres a story in a sci fi anthology I read about food police in the future.”
Was it “Lipidleggers?” Although that one focused on butter dealers.
To: Abathar
How about a “dumbass” tax on congress?
To: Abathar
I’m 5’7” and weigh 118 lbs. One of the reasons I’m able to weigh this MUCH, is my affinity for high calorie, high fat foods. Did you ever notice that the obese among us only drink DIET drinks and other such Lo-Cal foods?
For me, gotta have MEAT. And more MEAT. Also, stay MOVING.
Greasy Hamburgers?
Now, you’re makin’ me HONGRY...

Just look at cigarettes. The same people are still smoking them and paying 4-5 bucks a pack...sometimes more.
So, you are right - it has nothing to do with public health. It’s all about money and control.
