A few days later, Lana was released and went home to South Carolina. The next morning she noticed an unusual spot on her leg.
"It kind of look like a bruise with a red outline," said Moon.
Friends said that when we first noticed the spot, it was about the size of her palm. Six hours later, after checking into Greenville Memorial Hospital, it was the size of a sheet of paper.
Doctors determined she had flesh-eating bacteria. They performed four surgeries in six days. Surgeons have removed tissue from her leg to keep the bacteria from spreading.

Hmmmm. There is a college student who cut her leg on a zip drive near there and who is now in the hospital in Augusta (GA) not far from there. She has lost her leg to some kind of flesh eating bacteria and is now fighting to keep her life. I wonder if this is the same bacteria? Anybody know? Could these cases be related?
I read that she is also going to lose her fingers. What in the world is going on with this stuff? Scary.

Ah, Ha! As I surmised. These cases are related. I am concerned because I have grandchildren living in that area of the country (SC). As children go, they are always cutting themselves.
I think my 98 year old mother had something similar last winter in CA. She cut her shin on her car door and nearly lost her leg because of it. She recovered ater a LOT of antibiotics and threats from her doctor. Now, she has broken her hip, and I am awaiting a phone call as to whether she will undergo surgery.
I wonder if it is the same hospital.
I don’t think so. One of them was in the hospital in Augusta and one was in the hopital in Greenville, I think. But, all of these places are very close geographically.
The first girl was injured in an outdoor accident, but thesre seems to be no explanation for the 2nd lady who had just given birth to twins.
I'll keep her in my prayers. Hope things work out for her.
Thank you. She faces surgery today, if they decide she can stand it. They are giving her a preemptive blood transfusion right now to boost her hemoglobin.
She is fortunate to have such sweet friends to help her with the babies. What a nightmare!
