Yes, the Republican party is embracing gays, maybe not gay marriage, but gays and civil unions. The difference between gay marriage and civil unions is a very important matter of semantics. If the left is allowed to redefine the term, “marriage”, they will use it as a precedent to re-interpret the law and the constitution.

Words have meaning and legal terms use specific meanings of words, not “evolved” meanings of words. Obama’s explanation of his “evolved” position went right over the heads of most Republicans. Obama believes that as the language evolves, the law should evolve, including the constitution.

Just say no to gay marriage, and I don’t care what gays do in their private lives.

The problem with that is that the word missing from this sentence changes everytime there is a capitulation:

"Just say no to gay ___________, and I don’t care what gays do in their private lives."

They have an ultimate goal which requires building on benchmarks. Think about where this will eventually wind up...
