WASHINGTON -- A quiet transformation is taking place in the Republican Party, which has begun to embrace openly gay candidates - and among gay Republicans, who now feel more comfortable speaking out in a party that may have accepted them but didn't always show it.
While differences still exist, the party is on the cusp of a generational shift in which the longtime foes of gay rights are replaced by younger party leaders who are more accepting.
"It's an exponential change from a few years ago," said former Republican Rep. Jim Kolbe. "It's happening, and it's going to continue to happen." .

Tisei does support same-sex marriage, and he said party leaders knew that from the beginning of his campaign for Congress.
"I don't agree with the party platform, but that doesn't mean I'm not a good Republican," Tisei said.
The National Republican Congressional Committee has designated Tisei as a "Young Gun," meaning he's on the national party's radar and can expect to get more resources for his campaign. Committee Chairman Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas said Tisei "has met organizational and fundraising benchmarks and has established himself as a strong contender."

Surrounded by colleagues from both parties at a news conference earlier this month, Wyatt, a 27-year-old Air Force veteran, denounced Republican-sponsored legislation that would have prohibited public schools from discussing sexual orientation in the classroom, which was known in Missouri and other states as a "don't say gay" bill. But Wyatt wasn't finished. In the same news conference, he came out, making him the only openly gay Republican state legislator in office in the country.

It’s history revisionism because the Republican party is not about this.
It’s like when Islamics say Jesus used magic and came down from the cross. I tell them, I have a different story and different Jesus I believe in, the one crucified. It just does not get in their heads.
Those who want to change the constitution are history revisionists. THey do not want to understand or admit the validity of the document.
While the “new” Romney may muddy the waters a little for people late to the party, anyone that examines who the man is, will quickly see that he has no natural reservations to any of the homosexual agenda, or anything involving it.
Not only is this due to his internal emptiness, but Romney is from a separate world, he lives in a separate world, his social life is a separate world, the contamination and struggles of the non-Mormon life of the American masses are kept out of the Mormon tribe, they even have their own state to operate out of, and to keep as a base and refuge.
Romney has the separated bubble life of the Kennedy type rich liberals, except magnified to the degree that even the other wealthy Americans whether republican or democrat or forbidden entrance into his bubble, even 85% of Mormons only serve as foot soldiers to him and the inner realm, they are not within the bubble of the Mormon elite. Romney never has to deal with life outside of Mormonism, except to temporarily interact with powerful, wealthy outside leaders for business or politics, but he and his will never be contaminated by what he leaves behind from those forays into the outside world.
This has been going on for a long time. The Log Cabin Republicans had to be catered to. Then it was GOProud. Ann Coulter joined forces with them, and Matt Drudge. George Bush made sure that a gay activist was in charge of his AIDs program, so the tax money could be spread throughout the gay community.
Mitt Romney is a pioneer of gay marriage. He imposed it on Massachusetts, and set the precedent for forcing gay marriage on states where the voters still resisted it.
It has never been a matter of gaining more votes by catering to the gay community, because it still offends more people than it appeals to, and in any case most gay lovers will continue to vote Democrat.
More likely it is a matter of carefully directed campaign contributions. Several of the biggest donors this year are gay activists, and that has also been true in the past.
Romney and Obama are about equally gay friendly. Obama is gay himself, and although he has been far more cautious, I suspect that the same is true of Romney. I don’t know it, because Romney doesn’t hang out in bath houses. But, for what it’s worth, he has the look. And he certainly has the political record.
The Republican Party is changing in other ways, too. In WA state, the Republican Party is becoming much more union oriented. The radical green left controls most of the state and has been waging war with the rural population for years.
That war against the rural population has included jobs in rural areas and now the union members are fighting back through the Republican Party. They have told the Republicans that the unions are ready to work with the Republicans, if the Republicans support the union interests. The problem is that verbal union support of rural union members is meaningless, when all the money and the urban union members are supporting the Democrats.
The former head of the WA GOP is now a lobbyist for the SEIU. That should tell you something about this. We have a Republican PCO /union member, who is working with Democrats who are “stormwater” regulators, because he thinks that these people are working for the coal terminal. The same guy who is working with the stormwater regulators, is advocating forming a group to teach about the Agenda 21.
It makes my head hurt, these people are such idiots.
...”embracing gays”. One way to keep ‘em in front of you.
Another reason for a conservative to leave the Repub Party who are very similar to liberal/progressives. I call it leaving the plantation.
I am thinking about where it will end up, but we have no legal stance to prevent them from forming some new legal contract that will give them the same rights as a married couple. I can’t think why they would really want to be married, but if they want to make it legal, we have to give them a way to do it. I would at the same time propose that other forms of legal unions be formed as well, to point out the absurdity of the unions. I think that we should have senior unions for older seniors who want to form a non-sexual family and live together. I think that we should have sibling unions for siblings who want to live together and on and on. They aren’t marriages, but if we are going to allow civil unions for same sex couples, we should also allow other contractual households to be formed.
Nonsense. Maybe by the RINO’ part is....
Its not the Republican party. It’s a bunch of liberals who have hijacked the name. The Republican party is now called the Tea party. So what we got running for President now are two liberals but nobody yet from the Tea party.
“Just say no to gay marriage, and I dont care what gays do in their private lives.”
bingo, my thoughts exactly.
Indeed, this is specific legislation meant to force people to embrace the gay lifestyle, in total bias. They did it with the feminist movement.
The Republicans who do this are changing the laws to shape society in illicit ways and through legal terror tactics, or surrendering to them for a pretty penny of corruption.
Nothing good is going to come out of this, because the process is completely corrupt in the first place.
I call it the Grand Old Plantation. (GOP)
OMG it’s Mango! I am so in love with Mango! I will do anything for you Mango!
The four stages of apostasy: Outrage, Tolerance, Acceptance, Practice
San Diego used to be a conservative town, largely due to the military's influence. Of course, the military has gone full-PC homo-loving, too. The ‘Pubs now are in stage IV...just like a terminal cancer.
The RNC has been looking longing at those independent voters on the well watered plane.
Fear not, they are going with Dick Lugar.
Conservatives need to boot the RINO’s
Indiana, Nebraska, next Utah. We will win because we are right.
