No, I don’t buy that for a minute.
At 3am on foot in a bad neighborhood, nobody in their right mind is casual, especially when one or more individuals approach them.
If you *know* you will be driving late through a bad neighborhood, you definitely arm yourself with *something*. Even a steak knife can be highly effective.
You never, ever let a stranger approach you in that type time and place, certainly not within sucker punch range. And if they try, your weapon, whatever it is, is ready.
And situational awareness is vital. You don’t walk 50 paces without checking to be sure you are not being followed, you walk to avoid ambush spots like alleys, giving them a wide berth which gives you the advantage of spotting someone “just on the other side” first.
You never neglect other people on the street, because if you think about it, what *legitimate* purpose can anyone have hanging out on a street at 3am?
This should be very basic stuff. Each and every time, because you only need to be careless once to get rolled.
