See, this is one of those unintended consequences things for me. I understand the need to open up airspace for the unmanned flights; military training, scientific studies, etc. In fact when this was first announced, I sort of poo-pooed the alarmists. Since then, though my thinking has “evolved”,if you will. This is one of those things that can, and will, if it hasn’t been already, abused by the powers that be.

I think it best to nip it in the bud, right now, before the statists over step their bounds...yet again.

The urgency of the immediate "need" is that DHS bought 9 Reapers for CBP, but they are pretty much restricted to specific tracks. Those specific tracks don't make them very effective for the constantly changing smuggling corridors.

DHS screwed up by buying these before they were a useable tool.

As far as the smaller local department type drones go, they will always be one accident from being grounded. At some point a local department will drop one on somebody's head and other departments will shelve theirs due to liability concerns.

No way they meet any 4th amendment test.
