What Democrats say Republicans believe as undeniable "How to talk To Republicans"
NJ.com ^ | May 12, 2012 | Jason Stanford

Doesn't it seem like Republicans are wrong about everything these days?

The list of demonstrable malarkey that Republicans hold to be unalienable truths is laughably long: Obama is Kenyan; Obamacare has death panels, increases the deficit, and pays for health care for illegal immigrants; Abortions give you breast cancer and cause pain in fetuses as young as 20 weeks;

Iraq had WMDs and Saddam Hussein collaborated with Al Qaeda; Tax cuts increase government revenue; Obama's stimulus created no jobs, and in fact government spending is hurting our economic recovery; If we don't raise the debt ceiling, we can simply prioritize payments and avoid disaster; We are a Christian nation whose forefathers "warned the British" about our gun rights, "worked tirelessly" to abolish slavery, debated Creationism before Charles Darwin even thought of evolution, and never intended to separate church and state; Evolution is not real, and global warming, if it's even happening, isn't our fault. To a syllable, all of this is thunderingly wrong, contradicted entirely by peer-reviewed scientific studies, as well as the vast majority of economists, historians, doctors and logic itself. But try convincing a Republican. From the think tank to the phone bank, from the church pew to the floor of Congress, the Republican Party has adopted as gospel a litany of lies that stops just short of declaring the Earth to be flat. I worry that's next.

No, there's really only one topic and that topic is global warming. That's why Chris Mooney wrote his book, it has simply his attempt, mimicked by many on his side, to portray Republicans or the Right as anti-science so that they can say that catastrophic man-made global warming is an accepted scientific fact.

But the problem is that it is not. There are certain accepted facts, at least relatively accepted, like increasing CO2 being man made, the greenhouse effect is real, etc. There are some Republicans or people on the right who dispute those. There is a legitimate scientific dispute about all those issues, but it is not mainstream. For example, mainstream science says that manmade CO2 is much larger over time than the natural increase from warming oceans.

The bottom line is that the Republicans have a much better grasp of the futility of sending manufacturing to China so we can pretend we aren't producing CO2 (something the Euros did under Kyoto). The Republicans understand that wind is limited in applicability and requires conventional backup. The Republicans understand that solar is limited in applicability and about 10 times the cost of conventional power. Republican and even a good number of Democrat scientists understand that manmade global warming is not going to cause catastrophes like drought (although it may exacerbate them slightly). They understand the severe limitations of climate models that predict melting of Greenland and subsequent sea level rise (won't happen to any significant extent for hundreds of years).

Most of all Republicans understand that the best way to deal with any kind of uncertainty and potential problems, climate-related or not, is a strong economy and a free thinking and educated population. Fundamentally Republicans are optimists who know that entrepreneurialism combined with human ingenuity will solve problems, even the most dire ones that are bandied about by the most extreme of the alarmists.

Here’s how dumb this guy is. Before the 2008 election, Charles Gibson (not exactly a raging right-wing conservative) asked Obama why he wanted to raise taxes when it had been proved that lower taxes increased revenue. Obama admitted that might be true, but he was interested in “fairness.” Now Mr. Stanley, how do you respond to that? What a maroon.

"toxoplasmosis"

Maybe. My own theory is just too much weed. I base my theory on talking to a number of ex co-workers and members of my family who were/are outspoken liberal Dems and admitted to strong drug use in their pasts.

I think we are lucky to have someone this stupid as a consultant to Democratic candidates. I am pretty sure that his condescending half truths will cost more votes than they will gain. A lot of these types of people just preach to the choir because they are too gutless to debate for real. So they wallow in ignorance which slowly sinks their candidate in time to lose the election.

I just have to add that while saturation is a fact, the effective altitude of emission varies by frequency and CO2 concentration, While a good portion of the CO2 absorption spectrum is in the stratosphere, some portions of the spectrum will increase the average altitude at which photons are released in the troposphere. Since the temperature drops with altitude, that means less outgoing radiation for those bands. Less outgoing radiation means global warming (all other things being equal).

Wow. Hopeless. Leftists just have to be defeated. If Leftists ultimately prevail, we will have totalitarianism and that means a violent struggle. If that happens, there will be no mercy and we enter a a period of cyclical reprisals. Good bye civil society.

CO2 is required for normal respiratory drive, so it cannot be considered a poison, unless you think that normal respiration is undesirable. Yes, there is an hypoxic drive for respiration, but it is a backup system that is inefficient and this type of abnormal breathing characteristic of patients with COPD, cardiomyopathy, and of course stupid liberals.
Let’s hope that this thinking, like hypoxic drive, signifies the death rattle for Leftists.

Ping me all you want, within reason, the fact that we disagree should not blind me to your opinion(s). This thread sucks from the get go however. I am not a republican. I am independent. However, the republican viewpoint is generally more correct. Given two choices I tend to choose the lesser evil. The author of this article seems to have given himself and the next three generations over to the dark side imo. Too many flaws to refute. Constant defense against unsubstantiated lies is no way to discourse imo. It is the liberal way though.

Thank you for all of those responses. BTW, that opinion appeared under NJ.com Hudson County news , so the Jersey Journal might be printing it. And thank you for assuring there was no harsh response to me but to this writer. Can we respond to the article at that page? Demand equal time to refute..

There is a Brain Slug Party on Earth, naturally organized by citizens of Earth with brain slugs attached to them. Its political goals include awarding unreasonably high subsidies to the Brain Slug Planet and attaching brain slugs to "the working man"- and basically everyone else on Earth.

Brain Slug Cupcakes!

Get a conservative away from Fox and put them in front of CNN or MSNBC, and his or her attitude might change more than you would expect.

The dolt-clincher.

How often did you hear in the Last election Campaign George Bushs Spending “Drove us Into a Ditch”? So Obama Out spends Bush 2 to 1 And No One says a Peep?
If you look Back in the debates about The Prescription Drug Program the Argument the democrats were Making at that time was that Bush was NOT spending Enough, there are Donut Holes and all that and we Have to Cover more People, well then the election comes along and W was driving us into a Ditch.
Now the debt is around 16 trillion dollars and we Need to Spend More to Get out of debt and RAISE taxes to Create Jobs, Maybe this Jerk can enlighten us with some FACTS as to where this strategy has ever Worked to create His Imaginary Utopia
