It’s a seductive form of denial”

While that is generally true, those of us who are glad about this poll are not saying the election is over...all we are saying is that obama is not unstoppable. We have grown weary of the continual drumbeat of “Romney has no chance”. Mostly this comes from the crowd that STILL can’t believe that Palin isn’t running....(see your previous point about living in denial....).

I’d wager that no one at free republic has Romney any higher than their second to last favorite candidate of those who ran.

But to live in denial and say that he has no chance is a form of denial which is neither rational nor responsible.

Romney, with all his flaws, too many to even begin to name, has at least a 50% chance of winning...or to put it in terms that we like better, obama has at least a 50% chance of losing. And that is very important. An obama loss won’t save the republic, which is pretty well gone anyway. But it will slow the decline and those who deny that, are again, living in denial about the incredible harm that this pos has done to America.

Today is a bringer of good news to all realist-minded Americans. obama is NOT unstoppable!

What I see as a form of denial are the self-hating Reps who never mention the historic 2010 midterms that shellacked the Dems at the federal, state, and local levels. It is as though it never happened. Just as the 2006 midterms heralded a rout of the Reps in 2008, the 2010 midterms will be a harbinger of what will happen in 2012.

I don't see how any informed person ever thought that Obama was unstoppable. His Presidency has been an abject failure at all levels. And there are possibly some more shoes that will drop before November, e.g., the two SCOTUS decisions on Obamacare and AZ SB 1070, an economic meltdown in Europe as the EU goes into recession with two consecutive quarters of negative growth, a cooling off of the Chinese economy, continuing high unemployment, etc. Obama will have to defy the laws of political gravity to be reelected.

Denial is dangerous whether it is denial of the positive or of the negative.

Its only antidote is a ruthless pursuit of truth.

(It has its place. For example, the mother of a sadistic killer might find solace only in denial, and it might be for the best in such a circumstance.)

Optimism also has its value. It provides an impetus in the right direction.

I cautioned against mindless optimism, but I do find in the poll and in the North Carolina vote cause for optimism, for a positive impetus, and for encouragement.

We need it! And we must take every bit of energy and all that we can from it!

Saving our Republic must be our top priority!

The alternative is decadence, destruction, death, war, poverty, crime, disease, totalitarianism, the domination of the American people including our children by monsters (remember Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Caligula, Tiberius, Nero--the list goes on and on): a dark age!

This is where decadence leads.

History's warnings are clear.

Millions refuse to heed them--whether from ignorance, stupidity, malice--or denial.

We who think clearly are well aware of them. We must not yield, and our strategy must be clear, focused, united, impassioned, aggressive, and fierce.

We are defending not only ourselves and our interestests but our children, future generations, and, in fact, the people of the world. That's what's at stake.

Clarity--clear thinking--is a must.
