The interesting thing is that a U.S. citizens has to show a valid birth certificate or passport. Illegal aliens do not.

All documents presented by the customer must be originals unless otherwise indicated. Photocopies will not be accepted.

A document is considered an acceptable form of identification if it can prove one or more of the following:

1. Address

2. Signature

3. Date of birth

Here in Texas, my step son (Russian) has held valid a driver’s license in Texas, “green” card, and valid SS card (among other personal items). All were destroyed when an RPG hit his tent while he was (thankfully) outside serving as a combat medic for the U.S. Army in Iraq. Now, just out of the U.S. Army, he goes to get another Texas driver’s license and is told he has to produce his “green” card; the remains of his “green” card are somewhere in the ashes in Iraq!
