(CNSNews.com) - Conservative pro-family groups in California are making preparations to challenge what they call a dangerous bill banning "reparative therapy" for teens that is on a fast track through the California State Senate.
California Senate Bill 1172 would make it illegal for therapists, psychologists, counselors and parents to engage in any kind of sexual orientation change efforts against children 18 and younger.
Violators could be subject to arrest, fines, possible jail time.
The bill, which passed out of a legislative committee Tuesday on a 5-3 vote, would also require adults to sign a consent form before they could seek therapy or counseling to change their sexual orientation.
Brad Dacus, president of the Pacific Justice Institute of Sacramento, Calif., pledges to challenge the constitutionality of the measure in the courts, if it passes the Legislature.
This legislation is a grotesque violation of the rights of parents over their children, said Dacus, who testified against the bill Tuesday.
He said the bill, which targets reparative therapy, could also lead to parents losing custody of their children to the state if they seek therapy for their youngsters.
It specifically prohibits any child under the age of 18 who struggles with homosexuality from getting any kind of professional counseling at all, period, Dacus told CNSNews.com.
In fact, it also subjects parents to possibly having their children permanently removed from them if it is found that the parents were not accepting of a childs perception of being homosexual and the parents want the child to get counseling.
If the parents are not totally accepting of this sexual orientation, then that is deemed abuse and gives the government grounds to permanently take the child from the parents.

Common reaction. The argument of the common liberal is so utterly seperated from reality that it baffles conservatives, AT FIRST. I would double-down and engage this guy as often as possible -- not to convert him, but to increase your ability to think on your feet.
Major suggestion is to question EVERY assumption. If this guy argues, it will often be from a starting assumption that is invalid. And, as you know, if you have a divide-by-zero anywhere in a proof, you can prove that 1=2.
Use him as a good sparring partner for when the real fights come, later in life.
This is what you get when evil becomes “mainstreamed”.
Depends who you are listening or watching.
Look for the pocketbook or the wallet to rule at the voting booth. Obama is in a cannot lose attitude.
Indoctrinate them so they will have a huge pool of youngsters to choose from. Next they will go after pedophile laws for only homosexuality stating it is a age discrimination.
F*** the law!
I do from time to time. I don’t bring it up though. I have other friends that I spar with to keep me thinking coherently. It’s a long car ride. 35 min one way.
He lives on assumptions and random “studies”. I’ll say something and he’ll refute it with a random study that is done by elementary kids (not really, but he pulls them out of crazy places).
My all-time favorite comment of his was that He wouldn’t shoot to kill someone that was raping his mom or sister. You can’t argue with that. It’s illogical and stupid. No point in lowering myself to that line of thinking.
IMO its obvious that homosexuality is a symptom of deeper psychological issues. Its amazing that the left has been as successful as they have at socially normalizing it.
Come back the next day and tell him you looked up the study and it either didn't exist, or didn't say what he said, and he'll be forced to not cite these fabrications.
Every day California requires more therapy in the logic department.
It must be the water.
Whoever came up with this bill needs to be hunted down and dealt with.
I have before. It just then goes into morals. Like the Stand Your Ground thing. I proved his logic wrong and then it came down to He doesn’t believe that killing a person is ok.
On the Gay thing. I made some great points and it came down to him saying that He agrees that marriage shouldn’t be done for Gays and that if they act on being gay, then that’s a sin.
Another great comment was on Obama speaking at his graduation at Notre Dame (he is catholic) and He said he made some great points on compromising on the issue of abortion. Ok, how do you compromise on Abortion? Just a typical Liberal.
Thank you for letting me vent all this. Haha.
Sounds like a business opportunity to set up “extended stay” counseling centers in Yuma and Kingman, to handle southern, central and northern California.
Yuma and Kingman would be preferred, as they are less cosmopolitan, but not entirely rural, either, and Arizona would have no problem at all with such counseling. Both places could be real ranches as well, for healthy recreation.
