First, even if his degree was in physics or climatology, he would still be wrong.
Second, if you think mechanical engineers don't know anything about physics or climatology, you are dead wrong. All mechanical engineers use classical physics (i.e. non-relativistic and non-quantum) everyday, and many are conversant in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics, which are the critical components of climatology.
