The overblown thwarting of a reported plan to blow up some airliner sometime somewhere with a possible new type of super-sneaky al Qaeda bomb illustrates the perilous problems and confusing complexities of life in an open society.
These kinds of clandestine ops are, hopefully, going on all the time in places we can't pronounce. We know about past failures. No one thought a boat headed straight for the moored USS Cole was particularly suspicious. Some Arabs learning to fly 747's but uninterested in learning to land them prompted no effective alarm bells.
It's nice to know of these recent successful counter-intelligence operations. The trouble is, if we know enough to smile smugly, so do the terrorists. Last year when SEAL Team 6 introduced Osama bin Laden to his 72 waiting virgins, the body wasn't even cold before Mr. Aloof went before White House TV cameras to share the good news.
But no corpse photos, you understand, because a nation that waited a decade to avenge 9/11 can't handle that truth. No victory laps allowed.
All of the administration's brass had, we now know, previously agreed to stay mum post-mission. But the next morning, a Monday, Obama's White House simply could not resist the temptation to bask.
So, top terrorism adviser John Brennan was trotted out to give the media its beloved "tick-tock," an allegedly minute-by-minute and inevitably self-serving account of the daring raid into Pakistan and bin Laden's three-wife household. Heavy on the Situation Room scene, less so on the beyond-imagination courage of the gloved guys with night-vision goggles

why does the White House intelligence efforts remind me of the Keystone Cops??
...that has been going through my mind since the announcement, why tell the who and how when it was successful?
Let the internecine warfare begin.
“.... why tell the who and how when it was successful? “ <<<
We didn’t understand that when Obama promised transparency exactly what he meant by that. We foolishly thought it was for us, for our benefit. Instead, it meant the entire intellegence gathering of the nation.
He HAS to be queing darker forces for some reason, mostly because he is buying peace with someone by this timely and detailed blabbing and sharing, so that someone will be pacified.
We have no real intellegence. It has been reduced to “show and tell”.
Well, now the morons put out that the device would be undetectable. So, even though this ‘double agent’ got one, it doesn’t mean there aren’t 15 more sittiing on a table somewhere, waiting to get used.
This administration is made up of nothing but a bunch of spoiled kids, who feel the need to prove their worth and let the world know how good they are.
MORONS!!!
When he is finally out of office, will he and those in his administration keep their mouths shut about what they know? I doubt it. They will be as dangerous out of office as they were in it!
They are all running around questioning who leaked the reports to the news .... duh, the Food Stamp President and his administration, that’s who. Must have pissed off the Saudi’s by insinuating that American intelligence did it and took credit, because all of a sudden we get all the details which indicate that it was Saudi run operation and that the Americans were only incidental. Must have punctured the much unjustly inflated ego the the Food Stamp President.
This was leaked as a distraction so we would miss the release of high value taliban detainees during our surrender of Afcrapistan.
As for the Arabs learning to fly planes and Not land them not setting off alrm bells, well it did it was just not politically correct to make the issue public, when the FBI agents told the Reno Justice dept they were not going to face the wrath of CAIR yelling discrimination against Arabs wanting to learn how to fly and they said Nothing
that’s a good point
