Or one could apply for citizenship to a country that is further down the craphole than is the US. I am eligible for British Citizenship since I was born there not on a military installation before the law was amended in 1956. I have looked into it but it seems once I declare, I am also eligible for taxation by that country.

I think you're wrong there but I'm not certain.Check with the British Embassy to be sure.under Irish law I'm entitled to Irish citizenship because my grandparents were born there.If I ever decide that I want to retire in Europe (I *love* Italy) I might exercise that option.
