The slippery slope has been greased and the Republic is gaining speed rapidly.
Might I add that I was still in high school when the Tobacco Wars raged and the Public Health faction, fueled by hordes of busybodied Nanny Staters, conquered. But even I could see the food bans coming, even without those of like mind constantly reminding me. Despite the Bonhoeffer quote, sometimes speaking up is not enough. Sometimes good men staying silent won’t stop evil, to paraphrase another old source.
The dominant ideology is progressive, and I feel will re4main that way. We can look forward to a future stretching out with ever more prohibitions based on the chain of social interconnectivity, or whatever. Every action, thought, emotion, will be held evermore to impinge on the health (defined as widely as possible) everyone else, so that even fantasizing about eating a doughnut will be a crime against the community. There’s no way to stop it, without a great conservative/libertarian awekening never to come.
[ Yes, there were some of us, even here on Free Republic, that warned of the dangers of the slippery slope, the using of cherry picked data from seperate studys, shot down the studys one by one, and it didn’t matter a didly squat.
The anti-smokers wanted a stop to smoking, for our own good they said. What they really wanted was to not smell the aroma of tobacco, ANYWHERE.
The folks that weren’t antis, but didn’t smoke, said, “What do we care? They’re not coming after my childs lemonade stand, my bake sale, my whole milk and fresh eggs from the farmer. Let them go ahead and ban smoking.”

Part of me wants to take the so called “Liberal Tolerance” and shove it down the throats of every Liberal I see that is against smoking, eating, drinking, salt, fat, etc...
I want to find any little habit those losers have that negatively affects them and then take it away using the same precepts they used to take stuff away from us.
Basically: You wanna take stuff away from us “For our own good” here, have some of your own damned medicine.
