The ultimate tool of warfare

New details regarding the capabilities of the 4th Dolphin submarine that the Israeli Navy is expected to receive in 2013

The Israeli Navy's new Dolphin submarine is the ultimate tool of warfare. Forget everything you knew about submarines, most of which is probably from watching war movies. This is something entirely different. We will not list all the measures installed onboard the submarine. This is in part because not all is known to us, and also because parts of it are classified. However, according to foreign publications, the submarine has two systems from which one can deduce about its capabilities.

The first system is an advanced and impervious SATCOM satellite communication system, which gives the military brass the ability to be in direct, secured contact with the submarine's command at all times. The second is a system of 650mm torpedo tubes. According to foreign publications, these are not ordinary torpedo tubes, but rather sophisticated launchers from which various weapon systems can be launched, including cruise missiles equipped with nuclear warheads.

Foreign sources can tell that the submarine is capable of launching Rafael's advanced Popeye Turbo missile. This is a variant of an air-to-surface missile developed by the company which is no longer used in its original form. According to the same foreign publications, the US Navy monitored a test of such a cruise missile from an Israeli submarine in the Indian Ocean.

Take the following imaginary scenario for example – an Israeli navy submarine is cruising somewhere near Iran. In a moment of religious fervor, the Ayatollah regime decides to launch a nuclear missile at Israel after the world has failed in its efforts to halt Iran's nuclear program. The IDF's HQ in the Kiriya base understands what is happening and decides to launch a severe counterstrike. A secure satellite communication system enables direct contact with the submarine commander. He is called to enter a state of strike readiness. The launch command, however, is not given via verbal communication - the submarine commander gets that order via special codes which change randomly. The code is sent, along with the preferred target. The initial target is a large military facility near Tehran. After several seconds, a long object emerges from the ocean, rises to a height of several hundred meters and begins its flight towards the Iranian coast. Iran's radar systems do not detect the missile as it makes its subsonic way towards the target.

This is one scenario, but there are many others that the new submarine will enable. The submarine could, for example, remain underwater for a prolonged period in the framework of electronic intelligence collection assignments. There are forms of intelligence collection that necessitate the presence of the receiving sensor as close as possible to the source of the transmission. Such a submarine is the instrument that allows for this capability. It can pick up anything that moves or transmits at a very large range, while creating a "jamming cloud" that deceives any detection system that the enemy operates, be it from a ship, air the ground. The purpose of this system is to prevent the submarine's detection, as it poses a danger given the vessel's relatively large hull and slow speed.

Once the submarine departs from the German shipyard in the city of Kiel, it will reach Haifa and will undergo modifications once all the ceremonies are over. Only then will the special systems developed in Israel - all of which are classified as "super secret" - be installed onboard it. These are systems that, according to experts, are found perhaps only in US nuclear submarines.

Nice to see Israel’s “ultimate weapon” is made in Germany. I don’t know if this counts as Karma, but it seems appropriate.

Might I venture a guess there are one or two systems
not even available on US subs.

The human brain is the ultimate tool of warfare. this sub sounds like a useful deterrent to a first strike though.

So does this mean that their sub will be able to sneak into the Straits of Hormuz and Persian Gulf to shoot heavy duty rockets at Iran's hardened nuclear sites??

Also a thought about the latest underwear bomb attempt. We need to spread the word that use of an underwear bomb means that the terrorist will never be able to enjoy all those virgins in Paradise

Doesn’t seem likely.

The Israeli Dolphin-class boats have two sets of torpedo tubes: 6 533mm (21-inch) and 4 650mm (25.5-inch). The 650mm tubes can accomodate the Popeye Turbo SLCM [submarine launched cruise missile] with a range of 1,500 km (930 miles). It is “special weapon” capable with a 200 kg (440 pound) warhead of unknown yield. The submarines carry a mix of 16 torpedoes and SLCM.

Israel now has four of these boats and they can be considered either first or second strike capable. Dolphin boats are very quiet and hard to find. It is doubtful that the Iranians have a capable ASW capability. That would mean the Dolphins can strike anytime, anyplace, and anywhere.

If I were going to take down the Iranian nuclear sites, I'd have the Dolphins do an EMP strike to kill all Iranian communications. Once Iran goes dark, it is deaf, dumb, and blind to attack. Then, hit their nuclear sites with Popeye Turbos or Jericho 3 ICBM with their MIRVs [multiple independently targeted reentry vehicles].

If I was PM Netanyahu, I'd schedule a nationwide defense exercise to put all the civilians in NBC shelters, quietly mobilize the reserves, and then clobber the Iranians.

As the dust settles in Iran, tell the a**holes in Damascus, Cairo, Amman, Gaza, and the West Bank: “Israel is no longer appeasing its enemies. Israel is going to kill its enemies completely and without mercy. Your choice is simple: live in peace or die as martyrs. Choose wisely.”

we don’t want those systems right now because the traitors will give them to all the enemies.

I know that battery boats are quieter than nuke boats but aren’t vulnerable when charging?

The last two boats in this class have fuel cell Air Independent Propulsion, so they can stay silent and deep for at least two weeks without snorkeling and running the diesel.

Can’t go fast though doing that, 4-6 knots or so.

You mean like how the Israelis repeatedly gave technology to the Chinese?

“we don’t want those systems right now because the traitors will give them to all the enemies.”

Excellent point.

Inform the US government of the sub’s characteristics, and the full report will immediately find its way to the desk tops of Russia, China, and all their allies, courtesy of President Moron.

And, yes, that includes Iran.

Those 650mm tubes are most likely for a hypersonic cruise missle such as India's new Shaurya or for a 2 stage SL-IRBM 0.65M is plenty wide enough to sling a 200kg payload 1500km or so at mach 10+ in a boost glide vehicle as well. We have been looking at just such a weapon for the US Navy under the arclight program and that is using 21 inch boosters scaled up to a 650mm booster and you can double the payload or double the range.

Great to see a ping from you gleeaikin.

As for the question asked. No clue here, though will say if it came down to it; believe Jesus would be the one waving the Star and Stripes. Iran would lose based on this imho.
