The blame falls squarely on the GOP-E and their bashing conservatives (Rove, et al), dirty tricks, and mid-game rule changes.

I can not go there. Not only do I have grandkids to worry about, I just found out that I am gonna be a Dad again. (Yay, with as many sarc tags as can work!)
I am 57 years old. Fought in three wars on the dirty end, only one of which was justified by my oath to the Crown - the other two were matters of state and pulling US chestnuts out of the fire.
No one has the right to tell me what to think or do. We talk, dispute and tease each other - that is fine. But I’ll not be told to put up or shut up.
