Someone else brought up a good point much earlier in the thread.. If you leave it blank.. it is an opportunity for someone else to do a write in for you.. :/
As it’s also possible for someone to overmark the ballot and void it too... but that’s an age old issue. The write in ballots I’ve seen on optical ballots have a bubble mark to fill in to indicate that you are using them. The optical tallyer would flag that there is something that needs to be looked at by hand.
