CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Citing a spate of violence that included the shooting death of a police chief, New Hampshire's Senate killed a bill Wednesday that would make permits optional to carry concealed, loaded guns anyplace where gun possession is legal.

The Senate voted 17-7 to table the House-passed bill that Gov. John Lynch had promised to veto. Senate President Peter Bragdon said no further action is expected on the bill this session.

Under the bill, gun owners could still have gotten permits so they could travel to states with reciprocal permit agreements. The bill also would have increased from four to five years the length of time a permit is valid and make it legal to transport unlicensed guns...

Punish and fine the law-abiding in violation of the Constitution you swore to uphold because of the actions of the lawless. Way to go, Senators.

The trouble is that there’s a Republican majority of 19 Senators out of 24 in the New Hampshire Senate.

Politicians lack the courage to go after the law BREAKER. That would entail confrontation with a NEW American “industry”. I refer to the Law Breaker Advocacy Union.
It is only the law ABIDING citizen who lacks a professional advocacy group.
I would still like the statistics on the percentage of felony crimes committed by the “law abiding, legally licensed, cautious gun owning citizenry”.

Before setting it aside, the Republican-controlled Senate voted 19-5 along party lines in a symbolic nod to guns rights groups to adopt a Senate amendment supporting making the permits optional.

From 9 May, 2011: "The Constitutional Carry bill, HB330, passed the NH House of Representatives by a vote of 244 to 109, and is now in the Senate."

They have the votes to override the rat's veto, IMHO, if all they need is the usual two thirds in each House to override. It also looks like someone wanted to sabotage a basic constitutional carry bill then and now instead of taking what they could get.
