A blind Chinese legal activist who was at the center of a diplomatic tussle between Washington and Beijing left the U.S. Embassy Wednesday to receive medical care in Beijing and be reunited with this family.
Guangcheng said via his lawyer that he is free and has received "clear assurances" from the Chinese government.
A U.S. official said Chen did not ask for asylum and is staying in China after receiving assurances that he will be treated as a normal citizen.
The U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told reporters that Chinese authorities promised that Chen would be relocated to a safe environment where he can study at a university.
The U.S. official said Chen was brought into the U.S. Embassy on "humanitarian grounds" because after his escape from house arrest in his rural village he was in need of medical care.

Spin, spin, spin.
We can't trust what either side says, nor the reporting of it.
America caved to Chinese pressure. The End.

The Americans caved on this. He will meet fate soon. Medical care. Indeed. He will be murdered with American complicity or approval.

OK Mitt Romney...
Step up, clear and simply take the right stand for freedom. Had Romney said anything before this happened, he would have been meddling.
But now, make Obama (and Rodham) wear this disgrace.
How very disappointing America has done this.

Did they have him leave from the back door near the garbage like they had the Bhuddist leader leave the White House several months ago?

...and the Chinese gov’t will confirm this humane approach after years of house arrest.
When treated, Chen will die. It will happen from “complications” or a disease will be introduced that will bring death in a matter of months or a year.

Chen, 40, also received a call from Clinton, whom he thanked in Chinese for raising his case, a U.S. official said. Chen then told Clinton in halting English, "'I want to kiss you,"' the official said. . . China promised that Chen could pursue a university education in a safe environment. [Sec. of State Clinton] said that ensuring those commitments are kept is a crucial task. Elián González decides to leave U.S.A. for Cuba, Clinton White House says -- only we knew that his relatives didn't say anything like "kiss you" to the Clintons.
Here is a photo of a China and Clinton promise.
