If Romney fails to garner the necessary 1,144 delegates prior to the Tampa convention, and fails to win the nomination on the first ballot, then all hell breaks loose.
After the first ballot, delegates are then allowed (IIRC) to support anybody they want. Fun times, no doubt.
Romney certainly seems to have a clear path to the nomination, now that Newt and Santorum have rolled, but it isn’t a done deal yet. Yet.
Should the convention open up to second-round balloting (and more) then it would make perfect sense for Ron Paul to have “boots on the ground” when the horse-trading begins.
November still seems to be a long way off.

I am now thinking of using my vote here in Texas for the primary on Ron Paul
