Christian anti-cult expert Dr. Douglas Groothius on why he is voting for Romney
The Constructive Curmudgeon ^ | April 26, 2012 | Dr. Douglas Groothius

Why A Principled-Conservative, Bible-Believing Protestant, and Counter-cult Expert Will Vote for Mitt Romney 1. Politics is not the church. It is the art of the possible. Often we choose the lesser of two evils, which is also the evil of two lessers. It is a fallen world. Get over it. Be romantic and optimistic in the primaries (as I was with Michele Bachmann); then get realistic when things narrow down.

2. Protest votes are pointless. They send no message, except that you have robbed the better of the two candidates of a vote. Like it or not, we are stuck with a two-party system for the long haul. See M. Medved's chapter on the failure of third parties in "Ten Lies About America."

Struggling and praying what to do in this up-coming election, particularly given my commitment to God to never vote for a pro-choice candidate, and my uncertainty about where Romney really is on issues that matter to me such as the life issue and other traditional values issues, the small government issue, the personal liberty issue, and so many other issues I am concerned about. This article by someone I truly respect has given me some clarity I think.

Often we choose the lesser of two evils

The willingness of conservatives within the GOP to check their convictions and support "the lesser of two evils" cycle after cycle, is why GOP politicians never feel a need to live up to their promises and alleged principles. Voting for "the lesser of two evils" is saying, "We don't really care if this guy who talks like a conservative actually ends up governing like one." In Romney's case, he did not govern like a conservative, and I will not continue dutifully bending over for the GOP establishment.

Really? This particular blogger is so good that you had to post the same excerpt TWICE, both under “News”?

Wrong!
If Conservatives ALWAYS VOTED, and always voted for the lesser of evils, in every election, the quality of our candidates would actually improve.
Holding back your vote for Romney will only help Obama.

It will not achieve any other result.

Exactly. We just keep lowering the bar until we are at the level of the DemoMarxists.

How, exactly, does that work? Or maybe you were using sarcasm, hopefully.

NO!

The only way to prove you are a true conservative is to cast a vote which helps re-elect obama!

I can’t really argue with a single point he’s made, aside from his description of Republicans as they currently stand in office that is. Not too many smaller government less spending members anymore it seems.

I look at what will happen if Obama is elected both through my eyes as a business owner but more importantly as the father of three young children, and that scares the hell out of me.

I look at the general ignorance of many Americans and why it is so hard to get good conservative politicians elected, and what an uphill battle we face against those forces pitted against us. All I can say is better a CHANCE for a man who may see the light than one who has proven over and over and over that he hates the things that make this country great.

Wow, I just violated my tagline too...
